Business Studies included: Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Accounting, Economics, Finance and Quantitative Techniques for Business in the first two years of the degree. During the Third Year, in addition to Marketing and Management courses such as Sectoral Marketing and Management Strategies and Market Research, I studied a wide range of Finance courses. Of particular note are Company Valuation, Financial Mathematics and Stock Market Analysis. Final Year courses included International Business Strategies, Retail Studies, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Management and Marketing of Small and Medium sized Enterprises.
Language studies included: Liaison Interpreting, Translation studies, Summary and Report Writing, Presentation Skills, Negotiation Skills and studying Spanish Speaking countries. 2009-Present Senior Economist, Central Bank of Barbados, Barbados. Main Responsibilities: Head of Financial Unit As the economist responsible for the Financial Sector, my operational duties include monitoring and reporting on developments, advising on the collection and dissemination of monetary and financial statistics as well as the subsequent analysis of the statistics, preparing reports to advise the Governor and Board of Directors of the Central Bank, the Prime Minister and other relevant parties on monetary policy and the development of the financial sector, liaising with external publics on activities within the financial sector and forecasting key variables. I frequently liaise with other departments within the bank, especially the Bank Supervision, Foreign Exchange and Export Credits Department and Banking, Currency and Investments departments, as well as various contacts within the sector. As head of the unit, I supervise the two other economists.
Additional Duties: Conferences From time to time, I am involved in the organization of conferences to be held by the Bank. In 2008, I headed the team that coordinated the Research Department’s Annual Review Seminar and Tribute to Professor Roland Craigwell and was responsible for all aspects of both events. I am currently second in command to the organiser of the one-day seminar on “Governance and Regulation of the Financial Sector – Post Meltdown: What has changed?” to be held on October 14, 2009. In addition to supporting the coordinator of the event, I am also charged with communications with the speakers, writing some of the press releases and managing the registration process.
Additional Duties: Committees and Projects I currently sit on a number of key committees within the Bank, including the Economic Policy Committee, the Financial Market Stability Committee and the Investment Committee. I also am responsible for the content and operation of the economic content of the Bank’s Business Intelligence Solution, an integrated database system, as well as the revision and introduction of the new reporting forms to the Bank’s licensees. These latter two functions form part of the
Page 1 of 4 implementation of a financial database and I am responsible for general oversight of its development. Finally, I sit on both the Steering Committee as well as the Technical Delivery Sub- Committee of the recently launched National Financial Education Programme of the Bank. In addition to my work within the Bank, I sit on the Sustainable Finance Group of Barbados, which was organised by the Ministry of the Environment and comprises of members of the financial services sector.
Additional Duties: Training A key part of my job involves public education. As such, I frequently give lectures to school children as part of the Bank’s Schools Lecture Program and have presented to members of the media on Monetary Policy as part of a one-day training course organised by the Bank. One of my duties as part of the National Financial Education Program is also to conduct some of the lectures. Finally, I frequently conduct training for members of staff in the area of statistics, forecasting and analysis of the financial sector.
