CONGRATULATIONS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA!
Janetta Demott reported the following news:
“I would like to celebrate with you our successful CMEA (California Music Education Assocation (CMEA) Solo and Ensemble Festival in Chico this past Saturday! The entire Chamber Orchestra (33 kids) participates in this event every year. They are broken into small groups of 4-9 and they prepare pieces like Handle's Royal Fireworks and Bach's Brandenburg concertos. This year we had 7 solos and 7 groups perform. They all played their hearts out; their parents helped with keeping track of cases, cello anchors, rosin, etc. while the kids warmed up on all different levels of Chico States Music Department. It's such a valuable educational experience on multiple levels; the process of organizing themselves into groups, then they get to choose their own pieces, they learn to work together and play without a conductor, prepare their pieces to the highest level within their abilities, perform for an adjudicator, receive feedback, and the whole experience of being on the university campus for the day. Out of the 14 entries 8 received a 1 (which is the highest), and we had one Command Performance (which is the additional reward for being the best of the entire morning session).
I would also like to acknowledge Karen Fauss for accompanying our young violinists! She is such a talented, gracious, musician and is wonderful with the kids! We just loved her! Karen and Rick stayed all day in support of our kids! Thank you so much for that.
Thank you all for celebrating with us!”
