Industry Changes/Needs of industry-15 mins It was observed that the Industry has changed a great deal. Mom and Pop Flower shop have declined and specialist florists like event planners, wedding businesses and bucket shops are more prevalent in the industry than they were 20 years ago. Relevancy of our program is very important. The department has updated curriculum and has kept current in training students but some of the information about our program needs to be updated. VI. Certificate changes/Discussion/relevance 30 mins The committee discussed the floristry Certificate. It needs to be updated and registered with the state. It was also observed and the advisors recommended that new certificates should be offered in the areas of Event Planning and Mass Market Training. I was suggested that the Current Certificate be adjusted to allow for three levels of Training and that they be geared toward new industry testing/certifications such as the California Certified Florist Program (CCF), AIFD membership application, and the Certified Floral Designer (CFD). The Event Planning Certification will take some work across several programs and some new curriculum but the Advisory indicated that it was an excellent and will look forward to updates.
