Where the Wild Things Are party ideas

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!!

I make paper plate puppets. I think I got the idea from Mailbox. Let me s= ee if I can explain: I think I cut yellow squares for them to cut out thei= r eyes, black rectangles for them to shape their horns. a handful of pumpk= in or other seeds for their teeth, all placed on one side of the plate. Th= en I cut another plate in half and staple it to the top half for them to st= ick their hand in. http://www.highsmith.com/pdf/librarysparks/2009/lsp_oct09_ll.pdf

I read some, do a powerpoint bio of him, and show some movies. We also mak= e wild thing masks out of paper bags.

Library Sparks mag web activities has about 10 pages of lessons.

We used to have Book Character Dress Up Day, before our new principal, who'= s birthday just happens to be on Oct 31, came to our campus. All students w= ho wanted to could dress up on the 31st as long as they talked to their tea= cher first! The character and sometimes costumes had to be approved first, = especially for older students.

We no longer have that, our principal allows only PK-1st to dress up and ha= ve a parade through the campus. All teachers are expected to bring in candy= to pass out to the trick or treaters! I just like my way better, I also ha= d a RIF give-a-way that day for all students, so I could take pictures, giv= e them a free book, and not sweets, which they get anyway that day, some ho= w.

I used to make a Max puppet with kids. One piece of white construction pap= er folded in half. Cut out the top for ears of wolf suit. Cut out a face w= indow and tape a piece of flesh colored paper behind it. kids draw the fac= e and add black construction paper whiskers to the wolf suit. Then use the= puppet as we play follow the leader in a "wild rumpus" sort of way, making= lots of growls and grunts. Great fun.
