Passage for Reading Practice

Love is Blind

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend always told her: I love you. I want to marry you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. You are the most wonderful woman I have ever met. You are not a "burden" and you are not a "troublemaker." Yes, you have problems. So do I. And together, we can solve these problems more easily than if we were apart. Problems are a part of life. But so is happiness. Let us share our problems and happiness instead of experiencing them alone.

I do not pity you. I respect you. I admire you. I think you are smart and brave. Don’t tell me to go find another woman. I don’t want another woman. I have found my love. Every day, I think about your beautiful smile, your happy face. I think about the long walks we used to take, holding hands all the way. I want to marry you.

Still she insisted that only if she could see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, "now that you can see the world, will you marry me?" The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind too, and refused to marry him.

Her boyfriend walked away in tears, never to be seen again. The doctor told her later that it was her boyfriend who donated his eyes to her, so that she could see the world.
