CHCWM – Director of Pharmacy
General Summary: Oversees and leads operations of the pharmacy department. In addition, provides leadership and coordination of all pharmacy departments at all CHCWM clinical sites. This includes both retail and infusion services.
Job Requirements: Education: Pharm D from an ASHP accredited School of Pharmacy. Intravenous sterile product training preferred. Specialty residency in oncology and or board certification in oncology pharmacy is a plus. Experience: 5 years of work experience in Oncology infusion and supportive therapies and/or drug research, and 2 years’ experience in a retail pharmacy. Three years of management experience (don’t we want this required) preferred. Experience with investigational protocols a plus. Familiarity with biological safety cabinets, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, computer equipment and software (Microsoft Word and Excel). Other: BCOP certified preferred. The pharmacist should be competent in IV admixture and drug dispensing services. Ability to interact effectively and pleasantly with a diverse population. Ability to review detailed data and make prompt judgments based on that data. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines, interruptions and high work volume. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. 50% of time sitting at computer, 50% walking/moving, able to transport items weighing less than 30 pounds 5% of the time. Capable of walking up to three miles per day.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education/Experience: Knowledge of and the ability to apply management and organizational theory to direct the operation of the pharmacy department. Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of employee development. Ability is also needed to identify problems, research cause, and implement appropriate resolution. Master’s degree in a business or healthcare related field preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): 1. Function under Pharmacist job description as needed. 2. Oversee and manage Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. This includes drug utilization and formulary initiatives. 3. Oversee and manage of both infusion and retail pharmacy personnel. Ensures adequate staffing. Responsible for training and maintenance for new and existing staff of required regulatory and accrediting body requirements in a manner that reflects overall expectations and requirements. 4. Regulatory and accrediting maintenance. This represents licensure of all pharmacies. Includes maintaining compliance with federal, state regulations related to medication maintenance. This also includes other regulatory standards such as USP 797/800 as applicable. 5. Institutional representation and leadership at a state and national level. 6. Provides direction to the Materials Management Coordinator and maintains oversight of drug contracts and utilization to optimize rebates, etc. 7. Works with leadership groups to optimize drug management efforts and to enhance programs such as OCM. 8. Develop and implement departmental growth goals that focus on quality, enhanced patient care services, and financial strength of the practice. 9. Represent pharmacy in Director Meeting. Work in conjunction with other clinical and operational leaders in strategic planning for CHC. 10. Medication management, which includes participation in regimen building and maintenance in the EMR.
Function as a team member by expanding his/her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
Communicates and interacts with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHCWM staff morale. Interacts effectively with patients/family members and demonstrates sensitivity in regards to cultural diversity, age specific needs and confidentiality.

This employee has access to medical records daily. The parts of the medical record s/he needs to references to perform his/her job are as follows: Lab Information System, Pharmacy Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and Electronic Billing System (EBS).
Work Environment: Able to see clearly in an environment which is equipped with typical lighting. Able to perform manual tasks that require the use of fine muscle motor skills. Able to walk approximately one mile per workday. Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to stand and / or sit for prolonged periods. Able to freely bend/stretch. Able to access, input and retrieve information from computer. Able to tolerate frequent handwashing. Very fast-paced and ever changing office environment.
