EXPERIENCE Oct 2007 – present Multilingual Secretary, two offices reporting to the Director General United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna . Editing and publication of staff announcements and information on the staff intranet; proof reading and amending of official documents as well as comments, reports and memorandums written by my superiors; telephone correspondence in three languages with ambassadors and repreprentative of Member States; general administrative services including distribution and filing of documentation and monitoring of all incoming and outgoing correspondence; assisting with the organisation and logistics of conferences. My main function was to support the division secretary in her work which required flexibility and willingness to tackle any task presented to me.
Aug – Sept 2007 Receptionist/Secretary, Gallagher Spain, Madrid . Directing telephone calls; making travel and hotel arrangements for business trips; sending and receiving packages. In this role I acted as a communicator between colleagues and customers mostly in Spanish but also often in a bilingual context. I quickly learnt to manage the administrative systems in order to maintain records of all office activity.
July 2007 Summer Camp Teacher, King’s College, Madrid . Taking charge of a class of children aged between eight and ten years old. I taught English through a variety of media to make the classes as interactive, diverse and creative as possible. Throughout the course I monitored both the academic and personal progress of each student to report back to their parents.
Oct 2006 – June 2007 News Editor, Teamtalk Satellite, Liverpool . Selecting and editing news reports to compile brief news bulletins and gazettes in English, Spanish and German which are sent to ships worldwide. I have gained experience of working under pressure and coping with rigid deadlines as well as broadening my knowledge and interest in world politics and affairs, in particular Latin American current affairs.
Sept 2005 – May 2006 English Language Teacher Assistant, IES Bécquer, Seville . Teaching classes of children aged between 11 and 22; supporting bilingual staff teaching their subjects in English; teaching one-to-one private language classes. Through establishing a relationship with the pupils I learnt how to be assertive whilst maintaining a fun and relaxed atmosphere in the classroom. Working with the teachers I took on a supportive role and was willing and able to help them in a variety of ways: using my creativity to design worksheets and exercises and using my language to write and mark exams and give the teachers English conversation and pronunciation practice. I participated in school excursions and helped organize and supervise 30 first year students at a four day bilingual science fair. I also organized my own cultural and linguistic exchange between the older pupils and English students from outside the school which was very successful.
June 2004 – Sept 2005 Waitress, Wisley Golf Club, Ripley . Professional waitressing and bar work in an exclusive golf club with international members. Smart presentation and focusing on the customer were the key skills involved in this experience as well as co-ordinating and supporting the catering logistics at functions and events.
Jan 2003 – April 2004 Receptionist, Peak Fitness, Woking . Dealing with current members; recruiting new members; using the membership database; managing the fitness instructors' diaries. In this role I developed my administrational skills and was able to use my creativity to promote new classes and membership schemes.
Sept 2001 – Nov 2002 Party Entertainer, David Lloyd Fitness Centre, Woking . Organising birthday parties for children aged between 5 and 12. Through organizing games and activities I learnt how to be a team leader motivating and encouraging children to work together.
May 2000 – Sept 2001 Sales Assistant, Clarks Ltd, Woking . Selling shoes and shoe cleaning products in the children’s department. I developed my communication and persuasive skills on two different levels simultaneously, through having to sell the shoes to both the children and their parents. On three occasions I was rewarded for selling the highest percentage of shoe cleaning products.
EDUCATION 2003 – 2007 University of Liverpool First class BA Hons Degree in Hispanic and German Studies Language has been the principal component of my degree and I have obtained fluency in both Spanish and German and a high level in Portuguese. I have mixed my language studies with European and Latin American culture, history and literature studies. I have consolidated what I have learnt both culturally and linguistically by spending time in Spain, Latin America and Germany.
