Job Description International Citizen Service (ICS) Regional Volunteer Recruitment Officer

Location: South Wales Region (Home Based) Relationships: Responsible to the ICS Programme Manager; working closely with the ICS Marketing Coordinator and ICS Volunteer Coordinator Remuneration: £160 per week (20 hours per week) + Travel Contract: Self employed, fixed term to end December 2014 with possible extension School term time only Job Purpose: To recruit volunteers and team leaders to the ICS programme and promote Lattitude’s ICS opportunities in Ghana and Malawi.

Background Lattitude Global Volunteering is an international youth development charity established in 1972. We provide inclusive overseas volunteering opportunities for young people aged 17 to 25 as part of our mission towards global citizenship and the development of young people. Lattitude is a partner provider for the International Citizen Service (ICS). The programme, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), and managed by a consortium of organisations led by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), enables young people aged 18-25 years to contribute to international development and to enhance their own skills through group overseas volunteering projects in some of the world’s poorest countries. As well as delivering ICS projects in Ghana and Malawi, Lattitude is responsible for recruiting volunteers and volunteer team leaders to the wider ICS programme which provides opportunities for young people in more than 25 countries.

A team of part time paid and volunteer Lattitude Recruitment Officers, based across the UK regions, will support us in fulfilling our recruitment strategy through a variety of channels. Crucially, Recruitment Officers will help raise awareness of the ICS programme in their region and will work with key partners as well as directly with young people to generate and support applications to the programme.

Job Purpose: To recruit young people and Team Leaders on to the ICS wider programme and promote Lattitude’s ICS opportunities in Ghana and Malawi. The ICS Programme Manager will agree target numbers and reach on a monthly and quarterly basis.

 To give presentations and organise promotional activities at schools, colleges, universities, youth groups in the region both in a formal and informal setting.  To identify and attend recruitment and awareness raising events at organisations in order to communicate ICS opportunities to target market and to generate a database of contacts for further communications by the central Lattitude team  To work closely with the Lattitude marketing team and ICS Programme team, including other regional Recruitment Officers and Local Representatives to follow up contacts and opportunities in the region to help convert prospects into applications  To work with local partners and the ICS Programme Team to maintain contact with returned volunteers  To identify and develop partnerships with regional or local organisations that provide opportunities for recruitment of eligible volunteers to the ICS Programme  To develop relationships with careers advisers, youth workers, placement officers and other relevant staff contacts in local organisations  To respond to general enquiries about ICS  To communicate ideas, share learning and take an active interest in developing our service, working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation  To ensure that the online database and other records are maintained and up to date and that all reporting is provided to required timeframes

Person specification

Essential  Experience of working with young people in a development, advisory or support role  Good understanding and access to a wide range of local youth based organisations e.g. schools, youth clubs, colleges  Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and organisations  Excellent presentation and writing skills  Ability to work autonomously and with initiative in order to achieve targets without direct supervision  Ability to work flexibly and to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines  Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail  IT literate – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, database.  Own transport and ability to travel across the region
