Advisor Job Description & Expectations

D.C. Council BBYO

Advisor Job Description & Expectations

 Promote leadership by inspiring and motivating the chapter to take an active role.  Attend chapter functions, and, if unavailable, notify chapter parents or the BBYO office to find a replacement. All BBYO events must have an adult present.  Engage in Advisor Enrichment and Professional Development so that you can stay up to date with developments in the organization, and receive valuable tools and resources.  Develop meaningful relationships with the BBYO members, their parents, other advisors, staff, and other community members that support or work with teens.  Help maintain positive AZA and BBG chapter traditions.  Empower the teens. BBYO is a youth lead, staff-run organization - the teens should play a big role in decision making and developing, and advisors do the guiding.  Assist with the implementation of chapter programs, meetings, training, and events. Help maintain the chapter checkbook while using it as a teaching tool for the kids to learn how to budget, pay bills, and write checks. Monitor your chapter using Dashboard and being in constant contact with your Godol/N’siah.  Partner with BBYO staff to help promote summer program opportunities to both the teens and their parents.  Strengthen the organization's and the teens' Jewish identity as often as possible. We truly expect our staff to follow the guidelines of Shabbat, kosher laws and to assist the kids in learning about being Jewish. BBYO is an organization that is open to all sects of Judaism and want the youth to have the opportunity to explore and learn, as they define their worn Jewish identity.

BBYO thanks all of the volunteers who are part of the advisor network. Our volunteers are part of an international community of nearly 700 advisors like yourself--volunteers who care about the future of BBYO and teens in general. Thanks for your interest.
