NOTE: This TENTATIVE outline is to help you study and be prepared for class. There may be slight changes along the way. Furthermore, this outline is only intended for Monday-Thursday class study. OBJECTIVES: a. Identify the eight parts of speech b. Dissect and determine the parts of a sentence c. Complete writing assignments using the correct punctuation and spelling d. Analyze and respond to assigned poetry and literature e. Interact creatively with other students f. Spell and define assigned vocabulary terms g. Write personal narratives and descriptions h. Create a drama using the necessary dramatic elements. i. Independently read assigned novel and discuss its literary significance

PROCEDURES AND ACTIVITIES:  Writing labs utilizing collaborative writing and free writing skills  Daily Journals  Class discussion of poetry and literature  Informal lectures  Group editing and revising of assigned work  Outside reading  Speeches  Multimedia demonstrations  Literary Circles  Response Groups

EVALUATION:  Vocabulary quizzes  Writing samples  Self-evaluation and peer evaluation  Grammar section tests  Completed class and homework assignments  Literature and poetry section essay tests  Portfolio Assessments

GRADING SYSTEM:  Tests will account for 50% of the total 6-week average.  Quizzes will account for 25% of the total 6-week average.  Daily grades and homework grades will account for 25% of the total 6-week average. .
