IV. Foreign Language Late Work Policy

Any late assignment must be turned in to the appropriate “late shelf” within one week of the original due date. The assignment must be properly labeled as “LATE” at the top of their paper. Late assignments will not be given priority to be graded before assignments turned in on time. If an assignment is not turned in the day it is due at the beginning of the class period, it will receive 50% credit.

This policy will also be implemented for any project (group projects, cultural projects, dialogues, etc.) assigned.

V. Missing Assignments  Two days are given for assignments missed for an excused absence. (Example: Student is absent on Tuesday, they are back on Wednesday, the missed assignment will be due on Friday.) o Absent work must be labeled “ABSENT” when turned in. Failure to appropriately label absent work may result in a late grade. o Students may refer to a fellow classmate or the class calendar to see a review of what they might have missed. Office hours are a great time to get extra clarification from the teacher on concepts missed while they were absent. o Handouts missed may be found in the “While you were gone” shelf. o Students may copy a classmates notes they may have missed when absent. o For planned and/or extended absences, students should consult the teacher ahead of time. Office hours are a great time to get extra clarification on concepts missed while they were absent. o Homework due to extended absences will require the teacher’s discretion and approval for extended turn in dates. o Emergencies do not exempt students from responsibilities of completing major assignments.

Test Re-take Policy

For any approved absence, tests and quizzes must be made up within 1 week upon return during office hours.

Any student, who wishes to re-take a test/quiz, must attend the teacher’s office hours within one week of receiving their graded test/quiz to complete any work/practice deemed necessary by the teacher in order to prepare for the retake. They must attend a second time the following week to retake the test.

Policy on retakes to demonstrate mastery of material:

We realize that all students learn and process information at different speeds. To this end, occasional retakes of selected sections of tests/quizzes on which a student has not shown mastery may be permitted at the instructor’s discretion. The highest possible grade earned on a retake is an 85%. Please keep in mind that: . No retakes will be possible on Level I information, including vocabulary. The reasoning behind no vocabulary retakes includes our research-based practice of assessing an appropriate amount of vocabulary mastery in multiple ways and at various times throughout the semester. . A student may earn the privilege to retake a section of an assessment ONLY IF:  s/he has received credit on all of the daily practice (classwork and homework) related to that unit leading up to that assessment  s/he has demonstrated determination throughout that unit in class to take notes, ask questions, and try his/her hardest  s/he attends office hours to practice the material in question and make corrections on the original assessment  that retake happens before the next assessment ▪ Assessments missed due to an unexcused absence will result in a zero on the original assessment and initiate the retake process for that particular assessment.

Students may not re-take midterm and final exams. VI. Classroom Procedures and Behaviors
