Deputy Director of Standards Job description and person specification

Scope

To work within the central team and alongside the Trust Headteachers and Deputies to support and challenge standards.

Salary: Leadership Spine - Negotiable Reporting to: Director of Standards Location: Bedfordshire

Job Purpose

To assist the Director of Standards to play a key role in developing and leading the Trust, ensuring that we deliver excellence in our schools and in the Trust’s central services team. As Deputy Director of Standards you will support this by:

 Providing a standards focus and lead in our primary and middle schools.  Holding a teaching and learning, school-based teaching role for part of the week.  Monitoring and raising standards at KS2 and KS3 across the Trust, but also working with KS1 and KS4 colleagues.  Line managing a core subject across the Trust.  Monitoring and leading SLE work that raises standards  Being able to meet with Heads and senior colleagues in our schools and be able to challenge and support them.  Reporting into, and working alongside the Director of Standards and ultimately, the CEO.  Be part of our CLT senior team that aims to inspire, raise aspirations and innovate in Luton and Bedfordshire, and part of the education team that continues to raise standards.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of all members of the Central Team:

1. Achievement and Standards

 Demonstrate high expectations and set challenging objectives for students’ performance, both personally, for those we line-manage and schools we support or are responsible for.

 Ensure a consistent and continuous focus on student achievement at KS2 and KS3, using data to track and monitor the progress in every student’s learning, and across our schools – analysing school data, and alerting the Headteacher, Director of Standards and CEO to any underperformance.

 Challenge underperformance which acts as a barrier to student achievement, or school improvement.  Use national, local and school data effectively and also ensure all Trust data can be compared and analysed by Trustees to support; • the monitoring, analysis and evaluation of student progress • the planning and implementation of effective interventions to support schools

 The continuous monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of learning outcomes.

 The preparation of termly reports to the CEO and Trustees, in collaboration with the Director of Standards.

 The closing of any gaps in progress and achievement between different groups of students and across the Trust.

2. Quality of Provision

 Support and challenge Headteachers in the Trust so that teaching is highly effective and that students are engaged in outstanding learning experiences every day by:-

 Securing and sustaining effective teaching through structured monitoring, evaluation and review.

 Monitoring the quality of teaching and students’ learning across the Trust through the analysis of performance data.

 Contributing to the development of teaching and learning by leading professional learning programmes, coaching and whole-school continuing professional development (CPD).

 Seeking opportunities to collaborate with other schools and other relevant networks to share and develop excellent pedagogical practice.

3. Leadership and Management

 Leading by example and representing a highly positive, professional role model for all stakeholders in the Trust.

 Maintain clear expectations, high standards of professionalism and collaboration to meet the Trust’s improvement and development priorities, addressing any underperformance and initiating appropriate school intervention alongside the Headteachers.

 Overseeing the Trust’s intervention policy in primary and middle schools.

 Liaising effectively with all stakeholders, including parents, students, feeder schools, partner schools, business and community partners and the wider community, as appropriate to designated strategic responsibilities.

 Networking with other institutions in order to learn more from them about the ways that they are effecting change and transformation.

4. Personal Development and Well-being

 Ensuring a consistent and continuous Trust-wide focus on student achievement, using baseline and progress data to monitor progress.  Supporting the Trust in the delivery of the inclusivity and ‘narrowing the gap’ agendas.

 Ensuring the safeguarding of all students through the implementation of effective policies and procedures.

 Ensuring a safe working and learning environment through the application of appropriate risk assessment and adherence to current Health & Safety regulations.

5. Professional Development

 Keep up-to-date with current research in teaching and learning, and in school improvement.

 Lead professional development activities, as appropriate, to update and develop the skills of colleagues.

 Provide regular coaching and mentoring for less experienced colleagues.

 Participate in Performance Management and in accordance with Trust policy. Person Specification
