Mr. Hardy’s Third Grade

RULES 1. WE WILL BE POLITE AT ALL TIMES. 2. WE WILL WORK QUIETLY. 3. WE WILL LISTEN COURTEOUSLY. 4. WE WILL BE FRIENDLY TO FELLOW CLASSMATES. 5. WE WILL BE TRUTHFUL AND HONEST. 6. WE WILL ALWAYS DO OUR BEST. 7. WE WILL HAVE FUN!

REWARDS 1. BLUE TICKETS WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS FOLLOWING THE RULES, PARTICIPATING IN CLASS, AND TURNING IN HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS. THE BLUE TICKETS CAN BE TRADED IN FOR A VARIETY OF FREE CHOICE ITEMS.

2. THE CLASS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO TEAMS. EACH TEAM WILL BEGIN THE DAY WITH TEN WHITE CHIPS AND THREE RED CHIPS. THE CHIPS ARE WORTH TEAM POINTS. WHITE CHIPS ARE WORTH ONE POINT AND RED CHIPS ARE WORTH TEN POINTS. WHEN A STUDENT NEEDS TO USE THE RESTROOM OR GET A DRINK, (OTHER THAN OUR REGULAR MORNING AND AFTERNOON RESTROOM AND DRINK BREAKS) THEY WILL PAY ONE WHITE CHIP. THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO ASK ME IF THEY CAN GET A DRINK OR USE THE RESTROOM. I MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH THEM WHEN I HEAR THE CHIP HIT THE DISH. DURING THE DAY THE TEAMS CAN EARN EXTRA CHIPS, TOO. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE CHIPS ARE COLLECTED AND THE TEAM POINTS ARE ADDED UP. ON FRIDAY THE TEAM WITH THE MOST POINTS FOR THE WEEK WILL BE GIVEN ONE FREE CHOICE ITEM!

3. ****STUDENTS MAY BRING WATER BOTTLES TO CLASS. *****PLEASE DO NOT FREEZE THE WATER BOTTLES! ****** HOMEWORK I’M A FIRM BELIEVER IN EACH AND EVERY STUDENT BEING PREPARED WITH THEIR ASSIGNED HOMEWORK. HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED MONDAY-THURSDAY. THE HOMEWORK WILL BE RELATED TO WHAT WAS TAUGHT IN MATH THAT DAY! PLEASE CHECK OVER YOUR CHILD’S HOMEWORK TO MAKE SURE IT HAS BEEN COMPLETED CORRECTLY. I WILL NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO CALL HOME FOR HOMEWORK!

PICKING STUDENTS UP EARLY PLEASE SEND IN A NOTE WITH YOUR CHILD IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE PICKING YOUR CHILD UP EARLY. IT MAKES IT EASIER, AND WILL CAUSE LESS OF A DISTRACTION FOR MYSELF AND THE REST OF THE CLASS. I WILL BE ABLE TO GET YOUR CHILD TO THE OFFICE QUICKER IF I KNOW IN ADVANCE. :} PLEASE SEND IN A NOTE IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN ABSENT. IT WILL BE MARKED AS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE INSTEAD OF AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. YOU HAVE THREE DAYS UPON YOUR CHILD’S RETURN TO SCHOOL TO SEND IN A NOTE. AFTER THE THIRD DAY IT WILL BE MARKED AS AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. SCHOOL BEGINS AT 9:15 A.M.

DISCIPLINE I USE WHAT IS CALLED THE GREEN LIGHT BOARD. EACH STUDENT HAS A NUMBERED CARD (NO NAMES) WITH COLORED STICKERS THAT I REFER TO AS LIGHTS. THE CARD HAS A GREEN LIGHT, YELLOW LIGHT, RED LIGHT, AND A BLUE LIGHT. THEY START EACH DAY WITH THE GREEN LIGHT SHOWING. THROUGHOUT THE DAY THE COLORED LIGHTS MAY CHANGE DEPENDING UPON THEIR INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIORS. I DO NOT USE NAMES ON THE CARDS. ONLY THE STUDENTS IN MY CLASSROOM KNOW THE IDENTITY OF THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE CHANGED THEIR CARDS! PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD DAILY TO TELL YOU WHAT COLOR OF LIGHT THEY HAD AT THE END OF THE DAY! MAKE UP WORK! I’ll provide an opportunity for a student to make up missed work due to any absence, and students shall be held accountable for the work. When a student is absent, however, the educational experiences lost during that absence might be irretrievable because the instruction and interaction in the instructional setting cannot be duplicated through makeup work. The appropriate number of days in which to complete makeup work is identified “minimum of three (3) days.” VOLUNTEERS JUST LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP OUT IN THE CLASSROOM. :}
