Patient Reminder Preference
In Centricity Business on the HIPAA/Notice of Privacy Practice page, there is a new field that users should document the preferred method of receiving appointment reminders. The options include: cell phone, email address, home phone, text message, and work phone.
Tips and Tricks Page 2 Updating patient Problems and Medications
Providers should update the patient’s problems and medications lists frequently and include an expiration date for those conditions/meds that are no longer active. For example, sore throat entered on the problem list would not be chronic condition and therefore should have an end date. Accordingly, should an antibiotic be prescribed for a condition, the medication should contain an end date for when the medication was stopped.
Go to patient problem list via an update (office visit, clinical list update, etc)
Click on the Problem button
Tips and Tricks Page 3 To update a problem listed as active, highlight the problem and click Remove
A Remove Problem box will appear and the user can update the end date (date will default to today’s date).
Tips and Tricks Page 4 The reason for removal should also be updated (choices are resolved, inactive, ruled out, correction)
Once complete, click OK
Now the problem has been removed from the active list
Tips and Tricks Page 5 Once the problem list has been updated, to save this change the clinical lists must be saved (End update and click sign)
Notice that the problem has been obsoleted
Tips and Tricks Page 6 Update Medications:
To update the patient’s medication list, go to update and choose the appropriate encounter type (office visit, clinical list update, etc.)
Go to Meds button
Choose the medication that needs to be marked as discontinued
Click Remove

Enter a Reason for Removal (choices are adverse reaction, changed, cost, error, not effective, patient preference, regimen completed, removed, side effects, other)-note other defaults
Click OK

Click OK
Once the medication list has been updated, to save this change the clinical lists must be saved (End update and click sign)
Tips and Tricks Page 9 On the Medication tab in the chart, the medication is now viewed as inactive and the stop dates are now visible
Tips and Tricks Page 10 Reset Priority of Document
Users can change the priority of the document when re-routing. In some cases, a staff member may need to send a document to a physician as urgent. The user will created their update and when routing it, change the priority.
Start an update and enter data as needed
Go to end update and change the provider accordingly

Choose the appropriate urgency under Priority and click OK

Place document on hold to route this document

Users have the ability to graph observations listed in the patient flowsheet. The information that is available to graph is dependent upon the flowsheet view in the patient chart.
Go to the patient flowsheet in the chart and choose the appropriate view:
Once the correct flowsheet is chosen, go to the graph button

Protocols are established within the system to allow users to access preventative care standards based on the patient’s sex, age, current problems and medications. It can be used as a guide for what tests or
Tips and Tricks Page 16 screenings should be completed for individual patients and the time interval. To access protocols for your patients:
Open patient chart
Go to Protocol button on the Chart toolbar
Can filter further by clicking on “Due Only”

The Continuity of Care Document Workflow has been revised slightly. Originally, files were save to the Y: drive; however, now users should be saving documents to “My Documents”
Find pt Chart and stay on Summary tab
Click on Action and Generate Chart Summary
Tips and Tricks Page 19 Choose the appropriate Reason for Export (dropdown)
Name will default to the chart you originated from
At Export Destination, click the ellipse
Choose “Y drive”-CCD Temp

Ensure that the box is unchecked next to “Open folder after generation”
Click OK
If a warning generates “chart summary already exists at this location”, click Yes
Tips and Tricks Page 21 Once generated, a message will note that the summary has been created
Click Ok
Put in a blank CD
Go to my Computer and double click on the D Drive (CD)
In another window go to the Y drive (minimize the Y drive window)
Highlight the Index file and drag into the D drive window

Click on Write these files to CD
Follow the default values from CD Writing Wizard
Tips and Tricks Page 23 When the above window appears click Finish, CD will automatically eject
Quick Text
Within the EMR, quick text can be used to shorten the key stroke process when documenting in the EMR. The EMR is delivered with Global Quick Text to be used University wide. Users can also create their own personal quick text. Note, quick text has a 51 character limit.
Go to the chart toolbar and click Options and highlight quick text

Replace box: enter in abbreviation preceded by a period (ex: .lab, .chf, .med, etc.)
With box: enter in the message to be displayed (ie, procedure, consent process, etc.)
Quick text can be used in any box that can be free texted
