Chapter One

Scenario #1

A married couple was going through a bitter divorce. The wife demanded that the husband give her the house and both of their cars as part of the divorce settlement. The two were unable to come to an agreement over this matter, and the husband decided that he would rather kill his wife than give up all of his belongings. The husband did not feel that he could personally kill his wife, so he hired a hit man to do the job. Acting on the husband’s request, the hit man shot and killed the wife. Based on this scenario, identify the crime that the husband has committed.

Scenario #2

A high school student was upset because another student was selling marijuana at school. The first student told the principal about the other student selling marijuana, and the other student was suspended from school. The suspended student found out that the first student had caused his suspension and became upset. Overcome with rage, he grabbed a butcher knife STUDENT COPY CSIP SCENARIOS 3 from his kitchen. He went looking for the other student to stab him. After unsuccessfully looking for the other student at several popular after school locations, the suspended student eventually located him at a local park. A young man found out that his girlfriend was cheating on him with another man. As he was going to her house to confront her about this, he saw her in her driveway kissing the other man. Scenario #4

A homeowner was awoken late one evening by the sound of glass breaking. As he looked outside to investigate, he saw several juveniles breaking the windows on the shed behind his house. Scenario #1

Several men wanted to throw a bachelor’s party for a man getting married the next weekend. They hired an exotic dancer and rented a hotel room for the party. The men all drank excessively before the dancer showed up. When she arrived, the best man offered the dancer $100.00 extra to have sex with the groom-to-be. She agreed, and the two engaged in sexual intercourse. The men paid the dancer, and she left the hotel room. Based on this scenario, identify the crime that was committed. The woman told the man that she would be willing to have sex with him if he would pay her $500.00. The man agreed to pay her, and after dinner they went to her residence and had sexual intercourse. Scenario #3

At about 8:00PM, just when it was becoming dark on a summer night, a person entered a liquor store. Upon entering the store, the person waited for the cashier to turn her back and then grabbed money from the cash register that had been left open. Chapter Three

Scenario #1

A couple who was dating for two years got into an argument. After the argument, the boyfriend wanted to have sex, but the girlfriend told him that she had a headache. The boyfriend persisted; however, the girlfriend would not change her mind. As she laid down on the bed to take a nap, the boyfriend began touching her in an attempt to become intimate. The girlfriend again told him that she did not feel well, and she just wanted to take a nap. The boyfriend continued trying to have sex with her, and she finally physically pushed him away. He ignored this and pushed her down onto the bed. He inserted his finger into her vagina momentarily before she slapped him across the face. Her boss told her that he did not want to and pleaded with her to leave him alone. She ignored these requests and repeated her demands. Fearing for his life, her boss had sex with her. Upon completion of the intercourse, she left his office without harming him. Based on this scenario, identify the crime that the female committed.

Scenario #3

A fifteen-year-old girl had a new boyfriend. She was very much in love with him. The laws of the state that she lived in states that a person must be at least 18 years old to marry or to have sexual intercourse legally. The girl told her new boyfriend that they can have sex as long as he uses a condom. The boy had sexual intercourse with the girl and used a condom. Chapter Four

Scenario #1

Two coworkers completed a major project and presented it to their boss. One of them appeared to take all of the credit for the project, which caused the other to become upset. After the presentation was completed, the angry worker confronted the other worker. He threatened to break the other man’s nose, which caused the other man to immediately fear for his safety. He ensured that it would not actually go off because his intention was only to scare the physician rather than cause him any physical harm. The fake bomb was placed underneath the physician’s vehicle in a manner which would ensure that he saw the device as he approached his vehicle. The activist also wrote a threatening message on the windshield of the physician’s vehicle, once again with the intention of only scaring the physician. As the physician walked to his vehicle, he observed the device and immediately became nervous. He backed away from the area and called the local police. A middle school teacher became extremely upset with a student who was being disruptive in class. The teacher grabbed the student by the arm and began squeezing it. This did not physically hurt the student; however, it made him feel very uncomfortable and scared for his safety. The student asked him to let go of his arm, but the teacher refused. The teacher continued to squeeze the student’s arm and then sent him to the principal’s office. The student began to cry and ran out of the classroom. A drug addicted teenager needed money to buy crack cocaine. He found a $500.00 check on the kitchen counter that was made out to his father. When his father left for work in the morning, the teenager took the check from the counter and signed his father’s name. He planned to cash the check and use the money to buy drugs. As he was driving to the check cashing store, he was involved in an accident and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A local bookstore recently fired an employee they suspected was stealing money from the cash register. This employee became very upset when she found out. As she was leaving the store, she noticed several other employees’ paychecks sitting on a table. The employee stole all of these checks before she left. She endorsed each of these checks with the rightful owner’s names. Fearing that she would get caught if she tried to cash the checks, she asked a male friend of hers to cash them for her. The male agreed to cash the checks if she gave him 50% of the money. She agreed, and he cashed the checks the following day. Based on this scenario, identify the crime that the male committed. Two teenagers decided that they were going to rob a local convenience store because they desperately needed money. They both donned ski masks, and one of them carried a realistic looking pellet gun. The two teenagers fled the scene immediately without stealing anything. Based on this scenario, identify the most serious crime that the two teenagers committed.

Scenario #2

A pair of burglars broke into a beachfront mansion, which they believed was unoccupied at that time. When they reached the master bedroom, they were surprised to see that the homeowner was sleeping in the bed. The homeowner awoke after hearing the burglars walking into the bedroom. The homeowner grabbed a gun from the nightstand and began shooting at the two burglars. One of the burglars is struck in the chest with a bullet and killed. The criminal became angry that she was taking so long, so he punched her in the face. The female began bleeding heavily and immediately handed the criminal her purse. Two college students decided to go out and have a few drinks to celebrate after completing their final exams. They went to a local bar and drank until around 3:00 AM. As they left the club and began walking back to their vehicle, they were approached by a white male. The male pointed a knife in their direction and demanded their wallets and car keys. Scenario #1

A teenager was angry at his step father and wanted to get back at him. The teenager took a five gallon gas can and poured its contents all over the step father’s new Mercedes. The teenager then proceeded to take a lighter and ignite the gasoline, which was covering the Mercedes, with the intent to destroy the car and make his step father angry. Based on this scenario, identify the crime that the teenager committed.

Scenario #2

A young man was angry at his former girlfriend for breaking up with him. The young man went to the former girlfriend’s parents’ house while no one was home and threw a lit “Molotov Cocktail” (bottle with gasoline inside and a rag for a wick) through the window into the master bedroom. A person had several laptop computers in the trunk of his car and was offering them for sale to anyone who walked by in the parking lot, where he was parked. The person sold the laptops, told each person who bought one that the laptops were “hot,” and to not tell anyone where they bought them. Scenario #3

Scenario #1

During a busy night at a local bar, two patrons became involved in an argument. After exchanging a few words, the two patrons began to physically fight. A middle aged man entered a movie theatre after buying a ticket and started an argument with the cashier selling popcorn. Chapter Thirteen

Scenario #1

A local code enforcement inspector was completing his routine inspection of a newly opened computer store. Knowing that the business was very lucrative, he decided that he would use this opportunity to make some extra money for himself. The inspector told the owner of the business that several electrical outlets did not meet local code requirements.
