Stan Brown, Chair, convened the conference call at 11:05 a.m.. The meeting summary from the March 14 meeting in Kansas City, MO was approved as printed.

Don Bruey reported he was going to Tulsa next week to provide leadership training to the OK Chapter. He and Jason will discuss the surveys on the need for mutual aid agreements and NIMS training, as well as one asking for the most pressing issues and/or needs within local agencies to use as a discussion starter at the Town Hall Meeting in Toronto.

Don will provide the on-line Town Hall call on Thursday, May 22, 2014 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pacific/10:00 Mountain/11:00 Central Daylight/12 Noon. Don will provide the information for the session to Ann.

Bo Mills sent the following report:

Congress is 3.5 months away - be thinking about those passports, your method of travel and what you are planning to eat ( food is expensive)

Linda Patelka, Region 5 Director, has resigned from APWA's Executive Board for personal reasons. Ed Gottko will be seeking nominations to finish her term.

Jason Peek sent word that he is still trying to make contact with John Davis with regards to any assistance he might be able to offer with the Education Session at Congress “MAP 21 for SC/RC members”.

Geoff Benway has added an additional speaker to his session “Stormwater Issues for Small Cities/Rural Communities” and will be submitting the information to Karen Wilson.

Stan Brown and Geoff discussed the presentation on “Creating A Paperless Office for Public Works” and agreed that the draft proposed by Geoff’s contact could be altered to include the information Stan has from his area. They will work out the details.

Bob Lowry reported he will have the article completed for the June deadline on Asset Management.

Ann Daniels reported the Editorial Calendar is well in hand with Jim Bernahl submitting the article for the May deadline; Bob Lowry for June; Geoff Benway for July, and Don Bruey for August. Ann has several other articles available as needed. Ann Daniels shared information with Don Bruey that Connie Hartline, APWA Publications Manager, will welcome his preparing a publication on Succession Planning in Public Works and he will make contact with her at [email protected].

The nomination process has closed and suggestions have been offered to Larry Stevens, President Elect. He will be sending out his appointments within the next month.

Rhonda Wilhite, Chapter Member Services, reported that four Awards had been made in various categories for the SC/RC Project of the Year and are as follows:

Disaster/Emergency Construction Repair – Crestmoor Neighborhood Reconstruction, Silicon Valley, CA

Environment – Enhancing Embayment Water Quality – New York Chapter

Structures – City of Coconut Creek New PW Admin. Bldg – Coconut Creek, FL

Transportation – Busse Woods Pedestrian Overpass at IL Rt. 72, Chicago Metro Chapter

Stan Brown encouraged the members to continue to review the Draft Business Plans and offer any suggestions.
