Mrs. Pendlebury made a motion to approve October 2016 SAC minutes, Mrs. Rupp second the motion.

Old Business:  Uniforms o Broward County School Board Policy 5309 states that elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and centers shall be eligible to participate in a school-wide mandatory Unified Dress program if at least 66 2/3 percent of the parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school vote that they are in favor of participating in a school- wide mandatory program. Parents/guardians mean each household will be allowed one vote. Policy has specific requirements outlined that must be met in order to vote for a mandatory Unified Dress program. o Possible suggestion to look into taking a digital survey (via Quia or survey monkey?)  Trunk or Treat o A huge Success! PTA raised approximately $230 from the “Not so Scary Haunted House”. National Elementary Honors Society raised money for the club selling pizza.  A+ Monies o Oakridge qualifies to receive A+ Funds by meeting the following requirement: Demonstrate exemplary improvement due to innovation and effort by improving at least one letter grade. o The School Advisory Council (SAC) creates written proposals in the form of a ballot for the expenditure of the funds. o One of the options on the ballot must be “none of the above. . The ballot must be presented to the faculty and staff a minimum of three workdays prior to the vote. o Funds may be used for: . a. One-time bonuses to faculty and staff, . b. Purchase of educational equipment or materials, or . c. To hire temporary personnel to assist in maintaining and improving student performance. o Faculty and staff must vote by secret ballot on the proposals. o The proposal with the majority of votes (51%) is implemented o If no proposal or “none of the above” receives the majority of votes, then the SAC reconvenes again and creates different proposals to be presented and voted on at another meeting o Minutes and attendance sheets must be taken for each meeting and submitted to the principal o Florida Statute 1008.36 states that, “If school staff and the School Advisory Council cannot reach agreement by February 1, the awards must be equally distributed to all classroom teachers currently teaching in the school.” For clarification purposes, a classroom teacher is one who is assigned to a classroom with students on a daily basis. o An idea presented by Mr. Aguilar was 10% of money for student recognition, 90% for staff. Of the 90%, 50% for staff from 15/16 school year and 50% for staff from 16/17 school year. Money allotted would be based on % of time employed at Oakridge as we had some movement of staff. o 9.7% of the money given to the school goes directly off the top to fringe benefits. o Many ideas were suggested and then changed but no one offered an option for the ballot. o SAC will meet again in December with options prepared to recommend for the ballot. If a teachers or staff member would like to propose one but is unable to attend, please submit the ballot to Ms. Heise, SAC chair.  Harvest Drive – We are able to provide meals for over 30 of our families at Oakridge. When Ms. Sanchez reached out to see if they were open to receiving Harvest Drive box, all families were very appreciative.  Parent Workshop Dec. 2nd - Oakridge is hosting the iZone meeting for the South Broward iZone. Principals and parents from neighboring schools will be coming to Oakridge for a training called “Giving the Gift of Literacy.” District professionals will be offering the trainings for parents of Elementary, Middle, and High School aged students. Breakfast will be served to all those that attended. Breakfast is being provided by Tower Deli of Davie. Mr. Aguilar has hired Jessica Perez from Events by Jess to decorate the Cafeteria for the event. New Business:  Dual Language Development (Mr. Aguilar)  Giving Tree – The students from the harvest drive will be placed on the giving tree for staff members to adopt and purchase gifts for them.  BAS Testing – BAS testing for Assessment period 1 was completed by November 10th. The next window for Assessment period 2 opens in January.  Accountability Money o Spelling City – The cost of Spelling City is about $1.55 per license per child. The license will run for 1 year. If every student in the school would have a license, the cost would be $655. Mr. Aguilar is going to have a representative come out and speak with teachers about the uses of it and survey the teachers as to how many want to have the licenses available for their students. Mrs. Muhammad made a motion to use money from the accountability funds to purchase Spelling City licenses for up to as many students as we have enrolled, depending on how many teachers want to use it in their classrooms and at home. Mrs. Vreeland 2nd the motion and all members in attendance are in favor. Motion approved to purchase Spelling City licenses. o Mrs. Kinchen mentioned looking into the Digital Version of Calendar math that is for the Mimeo Boards in the classrooms. She is going to find more information and present it at the next SAC meeting. o Mr. Aguilar spoke about looking at BrainChild.com/Study Buddy technology. It is for Primary grade levels. He is going to gather more information to present on at a later time. o Miss Moore suggested using some funding to purchase laptop cases for the 5th grade students so they can start bringing laptops home with them for course work.
