Project Options

A) Glossary. Create an illustrated glossary of words having to do with feudal Japan. Include key terms from ch.4, sect.2 (samurai, bushido, shogun, etc.). You may also use other sources than just the social studies book to find key terms on the subject. Each entry needs to include a definition (not copied from a book) and an illustration (drawing, internet download, magazine picture, etc.).

B) Taj Mahal. Put together facts about the Taj Mahal (at least eight). Write them on a 3x5 index card. Arrange the cards around an illustration of the Taj Mahal on a poster. The illustration must be done by you. See me for information about how to enhance your illustration with the overhead projector.

C) Ancient Inventions. Paper was invented in ancient China, as were many other items. Research some inventions of ancient China (at least four more). How was each one made and used in China? How long did each one take for the invention to spread to other parts of the world? Did people in other parts of the world change the way they made or used the item? If so, how and why?

D) Biography. Think about the qualities of a great leader. Choose one of the emperors described in this chapter. Write a short biography (about a page) of this person, emphasize the qualities that made him a great leader. Would the emperor you chose be a good leader today? Why or why not? Write several paragraphs (at least three) discussing either 1) changes your emperor would have to make in order to rule in the modern world, or 2) how the qualities your emperor possesses would make him a good leader in a modern world.
