Calculator: TI-83/84 (Plus)

Calculators with symbolic differentiation and integration such as TI-89 or TI-92 are not allowed for a quiz or test. Other electronic devices such as cellular phone or pager are not allowed to be used during a quiz or test.

Course Objective:

This course is a semester course which continues the study of calculus begun in Math 190. Topics covered are areas, volumes, techniques of integration, arc length, surface of revolution, differential equations, parametric equations, and Taylor and Maclaurin series. This course is required of engineering, physics, mathematics and computer science majors.

Student Learning Outcomes:

(1) Given a real world situation, students are able to use the appropriate integration technique to find the area or the volume as a solution to the problem. (2) Given an integral, students are able to identify it as an improper integral. And students are able to test if the integral converges and evaluate the integral. (3) Given an infinite series, students are able to use an integral test to determine if the series converges. 2

Grading Policy:

(1) Class Attendance & Performance: Attendance is mandatory. Make sure you will come to the class on time and stay for the whole class period. You should read the textbook before the class meeting to prepare your selves for the lesson. (2) WebAssign problems(12%): You have to turn in your work clearly written and organized in class on the due date. Make sure you finish the work on or before the deadline. You should turn in your work even if you did not get the correct answers. Go to http://www.webassign.com. The class key is riohondo 7723 4260. (3) Daily short quiz and worksheets(10%): We will have a short quiz at the end of the class meeting. The quiz is based on the material we have covered in that meeting. You have to turn it in during the class meeting time. If you did not turn it in on time, you can turn it in at the beginning of the next meeting. You will lose 50% of the points on the quiz. No make up quizzes will be given. (4) Tests (58%) : We will have 4 tests.(T1=10%, T2-T3=18% each,T4=12%) The dates will be announced in class. (5) Comprehensive Final Exam(20%): Thursday, December 8, 2010. 8:05-10:05 AM
