The Galva Arts Council Fine & Creative Arts Scholarship ABSOLUTE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 04/06/2016

The Galva Arts Council’s Fine and Creative Arts Scholarship was established by the Galva Arts Council in 1992 in the amount of $300 to be awarded to a talented graduating Galva High School senior for whom the arts will play a significant role in his or her future. Prior participation in any of the following areas is a plus: Music, Dance, Drama/Theater, Visual Arts, Literature/Poetry and/or Journalism.

This is a one-year, non-renewable grant. In the event of multiple winners, the $300 award will be divided equally.

Although submission of a portfolio is NOT necessary, the applicant may choose to submit samples of his/her work to be judged by members of the scholarship committee, a short essay and our application form. The Galva Arts Council wishes to note that this scholarship is based on a sincere and active interest in The Arts whether by participation or by promotion and is not based on financial need. It is also not limited by race, creed, gender, handicap, sexual preference or national origin. The student selected will be notified at the Rotary Honors banquet in early May. A certificate will be presented, and the scholarship funds will be sent directly to the college chosen by the student, in the name of the student, to be applied to tuition. In the case of surplus funding, the institution will be instructed to refund the scholarship money to the student.

Interested students are required to submit the following: - The completed application form. - Grade Point Average (transcript): Students must have a “B” average or better in the last three (3) quarters immediately preceding the application (i.e., the first three quarters in this school year). A dated signature from the school guidance counselor verifying the student’s status is required. - Written Essay: The student must write an original essay which includes the following: - A list of achievements in the student’s chosen field. A paragraph explaining the student’s goals and plans for the future. The paragraph must discuss the student’s area of interest and how the student plans to pursue an active future promoting and participating in the arts. - Optionally, the applicant may choose to submit samples of his or her work in the arts. Samples of the student’s work: o Musicians, Dancers and Actors may submit a videotape that includes representative examples of the student’s work. o Visual Artists may submit a portfolio of representative pieces for consideration. The scholarship committee may also be available to view pieces at a student show at school, if preferable. o Poets and Authors may submit up to three (3) pieces for consideration.
