1 [4013-1] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF 12 TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH 13 CAROLINA HIGHWAY 72 IN ABBEVILLE COUNTY FROM 14 ITS INTERSECTION WITH SECONDARY HIGHWAY S-1-139 15 TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA 16 HIGHWAY 28 “SERGEANT DANNY WILSON AND 17 CONSTABLE DONNIE OUZTS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY” 18 AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG 19 THIS HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS 20 “SERGEANT DANNY WILSON AND CONSTABLE DONNIE 21 OUZTS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY”. 22 23 Whereas, Deputy Sergeant Danny Wilson was thirty-seven years 24 old when he tragically lost his life in the line of duty on December 25 8, 2003; and 26 27 Whereas, he was a seven and one-half year veteran of the 28 Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office; and 29 30 Whereas, a native of Calhoun Falls, Sergeant Wilson was a 31 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School where he excelled as a 32 student athlete; and 33 34 Whereas, he was a 1996 graduate of the South Carolina Criminal 35 Justice Academy who served his country and State with distinction 36 as a Staff Sergeant with the South Carolina National Guard for 37 nineteen years; and 38 39 Whereas, he is survived by five children; Vatarus Tillman, 40 Tanedra Norman, Tadiana Johnson, Destiny Wilson, and Brianna 41 Polly; and 42
1 [4013] 1 1 Whereas, Constable Donald “Donnie” McMurry Ouzts was 2 sixty-three years old when he also tragically lost his life in the line 3 of duty on December 8, 2003; and 4 5 Whereas, Constable Ouzts was a six and one-half year veteran of 6 the Abbeville County Magistrate’s office; and 7 8 Whereas, he was a native of Abbeville who was married for 9 forty-three years to the former Jean Scott. They were blessed with 10 two sons, Kevin and Chris, who both reside in Abbeville; and 11 12 Whereas, Constable Ouzts was a Class 3 graduate of the South 13 Carolina Criminal Justice Academy who served his country with 14 distinction with the Military Police in the United States Air Force; 15 and 16 17 Whereas, it is fitting and proper to forever recognize the bravery 18 and many years of service to their communities, this State, and 19 nation of both Deputy Sergeant Danny Wilson and Constable 20 Donald “Donnie” McMurry Ouzts by naming a portion of South 21 Carolina Highway 72 in Abbeville County in their honor. Now, 22 therefore, 23 24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 25 concurring: 26 27 That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, 28 request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of 29 South Carolina Highway 72 in Abbeville County from its 30 intersection with secondary highway S-1-139 to its intersection 31 with South Carolina Highway 28 “Sergeant Danny Wilson and 32 Constable Donnie Ouzts Memorial Highway” and erect 33 appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway that 34 contain the words: 35 36 “Sergeant Danny Wilson and Constable Donnie Ouzts 37 Memorial Highway”. 38 39 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 40 the Department of Transportation. 41 ----XX---- 42
