Van’s International Foods Acquires Veat

TORRANCE, CA, OCTOBER 2000 – Vans International Foods, maker of natural frozen waffles, announced that it closed a deal Oct. 3 to acquire Veat Gourmet, a maker of soy protein meat analogs; the purchase price was not disclosed. The investment group KCA Foods LLC, which acquired Vans in January 2000, funded the Veat acquisition.’

According to Jim Kelly, president and CEO of Vans and a partner in KCA, the acquisition fits with the company’s strategy to build brands in the industry that fit its geographic profile. Veats products will be marketed and shipped from Vans Los Angeles-area frozen foods plant. Kelly added that the company is actively looking for additional acquisitions, though it had nothing to report at this time.
