W. DUKE HUCKS, 13 SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION FOR PICKENS 14 COUNTY, FOR MORE THAN THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF 15 DEDICATION TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THIS STATE AS 16 TEACHER, PRINCIPAL, AND SUPERINTENDENT, AND 17 WISHING HIM A WELL-DESERVED AND HARD-EARNED 18 RELAXING RETIREMENT. 19 20 Whereas, Dr. W. Duke Hucks retires as Superintendent of 21 Education for Pickens County on June 30, 2000; and 22 23 Whereas, his six-year tenure as superintendent caps a professional 24 education career of more than thirty-five years; and 25 26 Whereas, he served in the classroom early in that tenure, at 27 Pleasant Hill, Pageland, and Hemingway high schools, then served 28 as principal at both Hemingway and Hartsville high schools; and 29 30 Whereas, before culminating his contribution to public education 31 as Pickens Superintendent of Education, he was drafted to head 32 School District 55 in Laurens County; and 33 34 Whereas, Dr. Hucks has played a vital role in the education 35 profession generally as board member and President of the South 36 Carolina Association of School Administrators, board member of 37 South Carolina Association of School Superintendents and 38 Partnership for Academic Career Education (PACE), and past 39 president of the South Carolina Secondary Principals Association 40 and the South Carolina High School League; and 41

1 [5146] 1 1 Whereas, the schools under his leadership have earned consistently 2 top scores in SAT and PACT results and been recognized 3 repeatedly as incentive reward winners; and 4 5 Whereas, he has still found time to contribute to his community 6 serving as administrative board member of First United Methodist 7 Church of Easley, President of Pickens-Liberty Lions Club and 8 Easley Rotary Club, and board member of Pickens County United 9 Way and the Salvation Army; and 10 11 Whereas, he and his wife, Angie, look forward to a quieter pace 12 and more time with children Andrea, a graduate of the Medical 13 University of South Carolina and Billy, a Clemson graduate. Now, 14 therefore, 15 16 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 17 concurring: 18 19 That the members of the House of Representatives hereby express 20 the heartfelt thanks of the State of South Carolina to Dr. W. Duke 21 Hucks, Superintendent of Education for Pickens County, for more 22 than thirty-five years of dedication to public education in this State 23 as teacher, principal, and superintendent and wish him a 24 well-deserved and hard-earned relaxing retirement. 25 26 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 27 Dr. W.
