Dear Parents / Carers

PHOTOGRAPH ORDER REMINDER

On Wednesday 4 November, Adventure Photography were in school to take individual photographs of all our Primary learners.

You should now have received the proofs of the individual photographs of your child, plus any sibling photographs you requested, and we are sure you have been delighted with the results.

If you would like to purchase any of the photographs/items available please hand in your order form and payment to your child’s class teacher. Payment can be made by cash, credit/debit card or cheque. So that you may receive your items in time for Christmas all orders should be returned to school no later than Friday 20 November 2015. Any orders received after this date will not be able to be processed through the academy or in time for Christmas.

LUNCH PAYMENTS

Parents / carers who pay for your children’s lunch with cash are able to access the school building on Monday and Friday mornings at 8:20am (or 7:50am for breakfast club) through the Temporary Primary Entrance and a member of staff will escort you to the machine.

PARENT UPDATE REVIEW

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Parent Update Review meetings. Please arrive on time as the appointments times are for 10 minutes and all parents need to be able to see their child’s teacher at the correct time. Please be aware that on November 17th school will close at 12.10pm ready for the parent update reviews which start from 1.00pm – 7.00pm. Please send your reply slips in as soon as possible to book your appointment.

Nursery will still be open on November 17th as their Parent Update Reviews are taking place on November 18th and nursery will be closed on this day.

LOST PROPERTY

There are a significant number of school uniform items and coats being lost at school. Would you please ensure that all uniform is labelled and check uniform to ensure that you have only uniform belonging to your child. If you have uniform that is labelled with other children’s names would you please return it to school.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING IN SCHOOL

What we are learning in Nursery In maths we are learning continuing on with recognising numbers to 5 and counting to 10. You can help at home by counting different things around your house; how many stairs do we have, can you pass me 2 spoon etc. In Literacy we are learning about Night Monkey, Day Monkey by Julia Donaldson. We have now read the story and are discussing that even though the monkeys like different things they can still be friends. You can help at home by talking about what your child likes to do and what they don’t like to do and explaining that it’s ok to like different things than other people. In topic we are learning about night and day. We are talking about what activities we do in the evening and what activities we do during the day. You can help at home by discussing what activities you do in the evening with your family and what activities you do during the day at school. What we are learning in Reception In maths we are learning about shapes. We are looking at each shape and learning the names of these, then looking at objects and finding which ones look like the particular shapes. You can help at home by recognising shapes in the environment and discussing these with your children. In Literacy we are learning to predict stories from the pictures and front cover of our new core story ‘Eliot the midnight superhero’. You can help at home by reading with your child regular and predict what the story might be about In topic we are introducing our new topic ‘fantasy and superheroes’ we are thinking about what we want to know about this topic and linking it to our interests. You can help at home by talking about what fantasy is and reading some fantasy stories What we are learning in Year 1 In maths we are learning about place value. Can your child split two digit numbers into tens and ones, for example 12 is 1 ten and 2 ones, 24 is 2 tens and 4 ones. You can help at home by practicing writing and splitting different two digit numbers. In Literacy we are learning to write about yucky worms remembering to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. You can help by retelling and performing the story at home. In topic we are learning about houses in our Local Area. You can help at home by taking photos of your house. What we are learning in Year 2 In maths we are learning to use number lines to calculate the difference between numbers. You can help at home by asking children to subtract one-digit numbers from two-digit numbers, e.g. 12 – 5 =. In English we are continuing to write balanced discussions. You can help at home by asking your child to tell you about our core text Shark vs Train. In topic we are learning about 3D shapes and their properties. You can help at home by discussing what shape different objects are, e.g. what shape is a cereal box? In science we are learning about life processes. You can help at home by discussing how we know whether something is alive. What we are learning in Year 3 In maths we are solving addition problems using partitioning. You can help at home by asking your child to show you how to partition numbers and add 2 amounts together. In Literacy we are beginning to innovate our Cave Baby text and use the story structure to make our own stories. You can help at home by asking your child to perform the Cave Baby text to you. What we are learning in Year 4 In maths we are learning about addition. We are splitting numbers into their hundreds, tens and ones and using this to add two and three digit numbers. You can help at home by learning number bonds to 10 and 100. In Literacy we are using film to learn how to write plays. We are story mapping our play Oliver Twist and learning this off by heart. You can help at home by encouraging your child to practice their story map and acting it out with them. In topic we are learning more about Saltaire after our trip on Monday. You can help at home by talking about Bradford in the past and what made Bradford a good place to live. In science we are learning about Electrical circuits and how we make one. You can help at home by talking about safe ways of using electricity and finding different electrical appliances around your home.

What we are learning in Year 5 In maths we are learning how to solve problems involving decimal numbers up to 3 places.You can help at home by asking your child to create sums with decimals and add and subtract them together. Ask your child to show you would they solve problems with mixed measurements. In Literacy we are learning to innovate our core text “A Child’s Garden.” We are changing and making the narrative story our own this week. You can help at home by asking your child where speech should go in a text and the part of a narrative story. Have your child perform their innovated text map for you. In topic we are learning about how to create a successful piece of propaganda that could be used during war time. You can help at home by talking to your child about why it was important that propaganda messages were displayed during the war and what they think about some of the messages we have been talking about in lesson. In science we are learning about how to successfully plan, evaluate and create an air raid shelter that would be able to withstand impact. You can help at home by talking to your child about how they decided to create their air raid shelter and what happened when something was dropped on it as if it was during war times.

BRADFORD ACADEMY CHRISTMAS FAYRE

Saturday 5th December 11am to 4pm Over 30 stalls, Refreshments Santa’s Grotto, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting and much more! We are asking for a small gift for our Christmas Fayre that will be gift wrapped for children to buy from the parent stall. A £1.00 gift would be appreciated. Can you hand any donations to your child's class teacher before Friday 20th November please?
