CORPORAL CHARLES RAYMOND ENLISTED IN COMPANY E OF THE 3 RD WISCONSIN VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT (WILLIAMSTOWN UNION RIFLES)

Charles Raymond enrolled in Captain G. Hammer's company (at Mayville) as a private on the 22nd day of April 1861. He was mustered into the service of the United States as a private on the 29th day of June 1861 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in company "E", 3rd Wisconsin Volunteers to serve three years during the war (Civil War). He was born in the state of Massachusetts, he was 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, and by occupation a farmer. Corporal Raymond died in Virginia at the battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia on the 3rd of May 1863 by reason of gunshot wounds. Corporal Raymond's final statement (death notification) makes it known he was last paid by the federal government the 28th day of February 1863. Charles Raymond was the son of Ebeneser and Mary Raymond of Mayville, Wisconsin.
