This is the 2009 Ballot for the election of Officers and Board Members of the European Financial Management Association. Please take a few minutes to read the candidates' biographical sketches, posted on our website, and then return your vote by e-mail before December 15, 2008.The Nominating Committee has put together an excellent slate for next year. It would also be helpful to the 2010 Nominating Committee if you could take a few minutes to suggest a name or two for next year's slate of candidates. ______BOARD CANDIDATE BIOGRAPHIES Manuel J. Rocha Armada Manuel J. Rocha Armada is Professor of Finance at the University of Minho – Portugal, where he was the Scientific Director of the Research Centre as well as the Vice-President of the School. At the moment he is the scientific coordinator and the responsible for the Finance area there. He got a degree in Management from ISEG (Technical University of Lisbon), a Master degree in Management Science from the University of Kent - UK and the PhD degree in Business Administration from the Manchester Business School - UK. He published in several academic journals. He is the former President of the 1.st Portuguese Finance Conference, he is in the Editorial Board of several international academic journals. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the EFA (European Finance Association), apart from being a member of the Executive or Scientific Committees of several International Finance Conferences. He has held visiting positions at Wharton School, London Business School and Manchester Business School. His current research interests cover, in particular (but NOT limited to), portfolio (funds) performance evaluation, behavioural finance and investment projects evaluation.

Jens Carsten Jackwerth Jens Carsten Jackwerth received his PhD in Finance from Goettingen University in 1994 and was a visiting postdoctoral scholar at the UC Berkeley until 1997. He taught at London Business School until 1999, then at University of Wisconsin at Madison until 2001, before taking his current position at Konstanz University. His research interests are in derivative pricing and asset pricing. Questions are concerning the information contained in option prices and ways to unlock this information to gain insights into the underlying probabilities and beliefs held by market participants. The confidence into these empirical findings is investigated. In particular, market-wide probability assessments have changed dramatically since the crash of 1987 and might be inconsistent with the traditional utility framework, opening the market to potentially profitable trading strategies. Other research investigates optimal risk-taking of managers when facing complex compensation schedules. Publications appeared in the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Portfolio Management, and Journal of Derivatives.

Pablo Ruiz-Verdu Pablo Ruiz-Verdu is Assistant Professor of Management at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain). His current work focuses on Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation, and the market for Mutual Funds. His work has been published or accepted for publication in the Journal of Finance, the European Financial Management Journal, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, and Economics Letters, among others. Pablo graduated in Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.

Christophe Villa Christophe Villa is Associate Professor of Finance at AUDENCIA-Nantes School of Management. He holds a Phd in Finance from the University of Rennes, France. Prior to joining AUDENCIA, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at ENSAI, the top French graduate school in statistics depending on the French National Statistical Institute (INSEE). He is a research fellow of the Centre for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST-INSEE). His areas of research are asset pricing, risk management and financial engineering. His work is published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Business and the Journal of Financial Economics.

Marco Wilkens Marco Wilkens holds the Chair of Finance and Banking at the Catholic University of Eichstaett- Ingolstadt, Germany, since 2001. After working in the banking industry for four years he graduated at Hamburg University where he also obtained his doctorate in Finance in 1993. Afterwards, he joined the University of Goettingen as assistant professor where he also was promoted associate professor. Marco held visiting positions at the Université Rennes II, France, and recently at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), University of New South Wales, Sydney. His research interests include bank and risk management, especially interest rate risk, valuation of financial instruments, financial engineering, and performance measurement. Marco’s work has been published, amongst others, in the European Financial Management, Review of Derivatives Research, Journal of Futures Markets, and International Journal of Finance. He currently serves as a member of the board of the German Finance Association (DGF).
