Supplies: Students will be provided with a folder that they will keep all their graded work, study guides, and handouts. These folders will be kept in the classroom.
Prerequisite: An Internet-use agreement form must be signed and returned before using the internet on any campus computers. All guidelines of the agreement must be followed.
General Class Rules and Expectations:
1. Be Seated: Be in your seat when the bell rings and begin working on any warm up work posted. Do not roll around in chairs. Chairs are to stay at their assigned computer. Students are not to prop feet up on the desk or sit on desks. Students are to stay in their assigned seats until the bell rings. No lining up at the door waiting on the bell.
2. Be Ready: It is necessary for you come to class prepared daily.
3. Be Respectful: It is necessary for you to exhibit courtesy and respect towards others and the property of others. This includes equipment and supplies in the classroom. Respect also includes expression, body language, and tone of voice. Students will keep hands and feet to themselves. They will not touch another student’s belongings or computer/keyboard. Disrespectful behavior and/or profanity will not be tolerated and will be dealt with.
4. Do not speak while the instructor is speaking or teaching.
5. No food allowed in classroom. Water will be allowed with a twist top.
6. When working with computers, Ipads are expected to be in book bags or charging in the back. Everyone finishes works on assignments at a different pace, when you’re finished with class work, students are expected to work quietly on makeup work, enrichment assignments or work for another class.
Consequences:
1. Verbal Warning
2. 30 minute afterschool detention
3. Office Referral
Restroom Policy: The student has 3 restroom passes per nine weeks to be used as needed. After three passes are used, the student will be required to stay for a 15 minute detention after school to make up the time missed in class. Refusal to stay after school for detention will result in a referral.
Make-Up Work Policy: The student is responsible for making up any work missed in the classroom. Being absent from class does not excuse work done in class. Work may be made up before or after school and must be scheduled with Mr. Melton in advance. There will be a folder in the back of the classroom labeled by class period. Your makeup work will be in your class period folder. You will have one week from the day the work was assigned to complete missing work. If work is not turned in after one week, then late work policy will apply.
Late Work Policy: Classwork is expected to be finished in class on the day it was assigned. Classwork will be accepted late with a maximum score of 60, whether the classwork is one class period late or weeks late. Major assignments will be accepted late with a 10-point penalty per class period, with the highest grade of 60. No late work will be accepted after the end of that grading period.
Tardy Policy: If a student come to class after the bell rings they will be counted tardy. Three tardies to class will equal one unexcused absence.
Cheating/Plagiarism: For the first offense, the students will receive an office referral and discipline will be dealt with by school administration. Students will be able to make up the assignment with the chance of earning no more than a 60.
Testing/Retake Policy: If a student earns below a 60 on a test, they will be eligible to retake their test with a maximum score of 60. Students who retest must take the test within two weeks from the time the grade is posted or distributed to students. For students to be eligible to retake their test, they must have completed and turned in all work assigned in class. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule a time in advance if they are coming to retake their test. Internet Test Portions: All tests are expected to be completed in class on test day, unless permission is given. On certain tests, there will be online portions to the test. If a student does not finish their online portion, they may not continue on it at home. This would constitute as cheating since they are using more time than their classmates. See cheating policy for ramifications.
Cell Phone/Technology Policy: Cell phones are not to be out in class. They are to be in your book bag or pocket. If students are caught on their phones, the phone will be taken up until the end of class. If a phone is caught out a second time, it will be handed over to administration. Occasionally I will allow students to listen to music on their iPads when they are working individually; however, this is a privilege. IPads/Computers are not to be used to watch movies or play games. Doing so will result in a warning for the first offence and a referral for the second offence. Headphones are not to be worn in the classroom while lessons are being taught. This is very disrespectful. Headphones will be allowed when music is allowed.

My Educational Philosophy: My personal philosophy of discipline is that I feel it is absolutely necessary to lead by example. As an educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to do what is necessary to create an inviting atmosphere, provide engaging instruction and activities, meet the needs of all the students, and most importantly, maintain a professional demeanor and be viewed as a positive influence to those around me. Computer skills will be necessary for future success, regardless of the choice of profession after high school. It is important for each student to take responsibility for their learning by setting goals, asking questions, and participating in the classroom. My primary objective is to provide the best learning environment for students, and if we work together, we can accomplish astonishing things.
