Golden Torch Award

2012 LHSAA GOLDEN TORCH AWARD

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) initiated the Golden Torch Award in 2005 to recognize a former LHSAA student athlete who went on to participate at the collegiate level. The nominee should exemplify the meaning of the term “student athlete,” and serve as a positive example and a role model for today’s high school student athletes.

Past recipients of the Golden Torch Award are Marcus Randall of Glen Oaks High School, the student-athletes displaced by hurricanes Rita and Katrina, Patrick Surtain of Edna Karr High School, Tommy Manzella of Archbishop Hannan High School, and Danyele Gomez of Cabrini High School. Last year’s recipient was Claire Clark of Parkway High School for her exceptional leadership on and off the court.

LHSAA member schools can submit the names of former student athletes who have attended college and meet the criteria set forth for the Golden Torch Award.

Only one nomination is allowed per school, and the deadline for submitting nominations is Friday November 30, 2012. Please complete the application and mail to LHSAA Attn: Renee Trimble at 12720 Old Hammond Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816 or fax to the LHSAA office at (225) 296-5919. The application is also available online at www.lhsaa.org.

The award will be presented on Thursday, January 24, 2012 at the LHSAA’s Annual Convention during the Coca-Cola Principals’ Luncheon. Please help us recognize one of our own, one who exemplifies the words “student athlete.”
