Dear Student:

Congratulations on your decision to pursue higher education! Our office is committed to assisting you with as many resources as possible to help you achieve your goal. Enclosed/attached you will find an application for my Senatorial Scholarship. This Scholarship is only open to students living in Legislative District 25. You must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student attending a Maryland college or university. This is a needs based award and is automatically renewed as long as you maintain satisfactory academic performance, remain a student in good standing and complete a FAFSA annually. Full-time students may receive funds for a total 8 semesters or until you graduate, whichever is sooner. Our Deadline: May 31, 2016.

Before applying, please verify that you live in the 25th Legislative District by visiting: https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/VoterSearch

To be considered, you MUST return the following:  Fully completed application form  Copies of your transcripts (official or unofficial)  300 word essay introducing yourself and your education/career plans  Copy of your FAFSA or SAR Report Be sure to fill out your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon after January 1 as possible but before the March 1st deadline to ensure consideration. Most financial aid is processed using the information you and your family provide on the FAFSA. A complete FAFSA is key to getting the maximum financial aid you deserve. If you do not have your family’s 2015 income information you may use the prior year’s information. You can go back to the website and correct anything necessary. Having no income information on your FAFSA will eliminate you from many financial aid programs.

You must set up an account on MDCAPS at www.mdcaps.mhec.sate.md.us to receive updates and accept awarded money. You can also visit www.MDGo4it.org for additional tips and other information to prepare for college.

Other financial aid resources include Delegate Scholarships – contact each of your three delegates for information on their scholarships:

 Guaranteed Access (GA) Grant- This grant targets low income students by providing full tuition to current academic year high school graduates who meet income guidelines. You must be graduating High school in 2016 in a college prep program. All students must have a minimum, unweighted cumulative 2.5. You must request an application from the Higher Educations Commission (website shown above) and file it as soon after completing your FAFSA as possible. These are awarded on a first come first served basis until the funds are depleted.  Educational Assistance (EA) Grant- Open to full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates who demonstrate significant financial need. These awards are granted based on the FAFSA; a separate application is not required. MHEC begins making these awards immediately after the FAFSA deadline so funds may not be available to award all eligible students.  2+2 Transfer Scholarship - Designed to assist students who are graduating from a Maryland community college and transferring immediately to a 4 year school within the state. Visit the MHEC website above or contact the financial aid office at your community college

It is an honor and pleasure to represent you in Annapolis and provide these valuable resources. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Ulysses Currie Ulysses Currie
