Mr. Dilly, Superintendent announced that Braxton County Schools had OEPA monitoring this week. Dr. Martirano, WV State Superintendent of Schools, visited 3 schools in the county and was pleased with what he saw. One of the highlights of his visit was visiting Mr. Toumazos’ class at BCHS. Mr. Toumazos was absent but his students spoke so highly of him, Dr. Martirano plans a return visit to meet him.. He also read the following positive reports from the schools:

Mitch Wood, Principal of Burnsville Elementary reported that a total of 54 grandparents came to their Grandparent’s Day celebration and mingled with the students. The event was a big success.

Timothy Via, Principal of Davis Elementary reported that 200 people came to the

Grandparent’s Day Ice Cream Social and 15 parents came to the Parent Volunteer Training.

Linda Sears, Principal of Frametown Elementary reported that they are seeing increased reading scores on weekly assessment from the New Wonders Reading Series. She also said that

Mrs. Shuman has successfully implemented some basic techniques/strategies from Whole

Brain Teaching for behavior improvement. At this point, students are responding very well.

Jessica Pierson, Little Birch Elementary Principal reported that their PTO program has greatly increased in numbers this year. “Thanks” to all who come out and support the school!

Little Birch recently hosted the American Red Cross Blood Drive and had 21 donors and 15 pints of blood received. Gail Balcourt, Principal of Sutton Elementary reported that the SBA said that their building is in fine shape. It is evident that Billy Helmick, the staff and students work hard to keep it clean. They also had a successful Grandparent’s Breakfast with 210 grandparents showing up.

They had volunteers cooking sausage and preparing pancakes and French toast. This was the largest number of grandparents they have had in 5 years!

Denver Drake, Principal of Braxton County Middle School reported that they had the

OEPA review. The students were well behaved with the guests. He also had received 28
