Practice Document

Mail Merge Using the FormLetter.docx and the LetterDatabase.xlsx, practice a mail merge for a form letter.

Macros 1. Using the following red text, create a macro where you apply a round bullet and decrease the indent once so that the bullet sits at the left margin:

Bulleted list

2. Now, run the macro on the following blue text:

Speeds up routine editing and formatting

Combines multiple commands

Makes an option in a dialog box more accessible

Automates a complex series of tasks

3. Finally, delete the macro

Tables 1. Insert a Blank Table containing 3 columns and 4 rows, and type the following content in the cells:

Jim 2 3

Jan 5 0

Pat 1 4

2. Insert a Quick Table: Calendar 2. Charts Insert a chart and make the following changes:

 Remove the border from the legend

 Remove the background fill and the border from the box around the pie chart

 Add a title to the pie chart with 14 pt font

Track Changes 1. Turn on Track Changes

2. Highlight a segment of the passage below and delete it

3. Place your cursor somewhere in the passage and insert (or type) a sentence

4. Change how the markup is displayed: choose Show Revisions in Balloons

5. Accept All Changes and see how the passage incorporates the edits:

2. Highlight a single word inside the first sentence and insert a comment (type, “Check spelling”)

3. Highlight the entire paragraph and insert a comment (type, “Thesis needs clarity”)

4. Observe: notice how the comment bubbles have leaders (lines) to the text they are referring to, but they are difficult to separate. Click on each of the bubbles and notice how the highlight of the bubble and matching text are darker than the rest.

This workshop is a continuation of Microsoft Word Formatting. Basic skills will be enhanced with training in intermediate tool functionality including mail merge, macros, tables (create, calculations and sorting), charts, track changes and commenting, spell check, word count, Thesaurus and Look Up (for research).

Hint: remember that if you place your cursor anywhere in the document (and don’t select text), the word count will be performed on the entire document.

Thesaurus Look up synonyms and antonyms for the following words:

 Articulate

 Competent

Look Up (Research) 1. Look up the word Instruction

2. Pick a specific reference book

3. Pick a different reference book and notice how the quantity and content of the definitions differ

Footnotes Add a footnote next to the red text in the following passage:
