Expected Classroom Behavior

I consider it a simple matter of respect for my students to follow all TISD rules outlined in the Student Handbook including but not limited to cell phones, dress code, and food and drink within the confines of this classroom. Each day, I expect students to report to class promptly, to be prepared with books and supplies, to participate in class activities, to respect the rights and property of others, and to strive to achieve their personal best.

To assist students in focusing on the task at hand, I have provided a hanging bag on the side wall where students will deposit their phones as they enter the classroom every day. If phones are needed for an academic purpose on a particular day, I will have students keep them in their backpacks until needed. Students will not keep their phones in their laps or pockets in this classroom.

Materials Needed. For this class students will need: One 1 inch 3 ring binder. Students MUST bring this binder to class every day. Students are responsible for keeping all handouts, current assignments, notes, and returned assignments in this binder. Students will also need PLENTY of wide-ruled loose-leaf notebook paper, pen/pencil, and highlighter.

Quality of Work. Students should take pride in everything they hand in. Students should write or print legibly including a MLA heading on every assignment.

Heading in the upper left corner.

Student Name (first & last) Teacher Name Class/Period # Month Year

Every assignment should also have a title centered on the top line.

Also, students should refrain from adding “artwork” to papers. Work that is neat shows pride; it is an extension of oneself. Makeup Work. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed and take care of it. An assignment missed due to absence will be marked as a “1” in the gradebook to remind you to take care of it.

Tutoring and Make up Tests. I am always available to students before and after school on Wednesdays. If a student cannot come in on Wednesdays, we can try to work something out that will fit both of our schedules.

Grading. Major Grades (Tests, Essays, Projects) 70% Daily Grades (Homework, Vocabulary, Warm-ups) (Quizzes are double daily) 30%

Assignments will be accepted up to 2 days late for a 15 point grade reduction per day.

Grades in the Gradebook. It is your responsibility to check grades in Gradebook Home Access Center regularly. You (not just your parent) need to access this valuable tool frequently to keep track of your grades. If you do not know how to log in, your counselor can assist you.

Remember, if you are having difficulty understanding anything, make arrangements to see me before or after school. I will be happy to help!

Parents: The most efficient way for teachers to communicate with parents is through e-mail.
