Job Description

1. JOB INFORMATION JOB TITLE: Specification Officer BAND: 5 DEPARTMENT: Technical (Finished Products) REPORTS TO: Technical Manager Finished Products LOCATION: Central Services

2. JOB PURPOSE To generate and control accurate customer own label specifications and factory specifications which are ‘right first time’ and provide account based support to the Category & Site Technical Teams. To co-ordinate the Sainsbury’s HARA/TSA process across the business.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES 3.1 FINANCIAL Commercial Awareness of Actions 3.2 STAFF No Direct Reports. Dealing with customers in relation to specifications and presentation of all required documentation during audits and visits. Building relationships with other departments to improve systems in place. 3.3 ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE / REPORTING LINE

4. DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES  Calculation and generating ingredient declarations for finished products in required customer format  Estimating the meat content of products by both theoretical methods (QUID) and by analysis of results received from the laboratory. Completing relevant paperwork for return to customers (Fat Calculation sheets)  Keeping abreast of customers’ requirements in relation to specifications and labeling legislation and circulating updated customer COP’s etc. to other relevant departments where necessary.  Ensuring customer web portal alerts and contacts are monitored and maintained as necessary  Accurately proof read and sign off the technical text on customer artwork

Controlled document Last printed 00/00/0000 00:00 – Printed copy valid for one week after print date To access current version please see http://cra-sharepoint/sites/Managers/default.aspx  Dealing with customer queries as and when they arise  Presentation of product specifications to customers during visits and audits and implementing corrective action where necessary  Provide technical guidance and support to other departments encouraging understanding and awareness of specific customer requirements  Attend appropriate meetings as and when required eg NPD meetings  Keeping up-to-date with process/equipment changes in factories / sites  Participation in problem solving and project work as allocated  Validate and Verify Raw Material Specs to ensure they are accurate, safe and legal and in accordance with our Technical Guidance  To be aware of, and track, all Sainsbury’s NPD through HARA/TSA process from concept through to launch.  To follow the current system to ensure the smooth running of the HARA/TSA process.  To actively look for ways to improve the current HARA/TSA process.

3. MEASURABLE OUTPUTS  ‘Right First Time’ approach with specifications and artwork  Meeting ‘realistic’ customer deadlines  Maintaining finished product status logs per customer

5. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Essential Desirable  Food related qualification or  Working knowledge of critical paths experience in similar role  Working knowledge of Food Quality  Excellent communication, Systems eg BRC standard, HACCP interpersonal, negotiation and and Food legislation organisational skills  Logical approach, excellent problem  Good level of experience in IT solving and decision making skills packages eg Excel, Word, Power  Able to demonstrate experience in Point, Databases establishing & maintaining  Initiative, self-motivated, well relationships with customers, organised and assertive external contacts, management  Team worker colleagues etc  Ability to fulfil travel requirements  Familiar with recent food scares and of the role ongoing ingredient concerns  Previous experience of Raw material  Full driving license specifications / HARA System and working with finished product specifications
