 Students - Please remove all ear plugs or ear phones when entering the service line area. This is a distraction for the staff working the lines and cashiering. Thank you.

 The rubber ducks are back for the annual Rubber Duck race and carnival. This year it will be on Sunday, March 9th in Clermont at Waterfront Park. Ticket sales will begin Monday during lunch. You can get 1 duck for $5 or $10 for 3 ducks. With each ticket you purchase, you will have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship, $100 gift card, laptop, iPod, or theme park tickets. If THS has at least $1000 in ticket sales, we will get to see Mr. Jones dressed as a duck! Let’s make it happen!

 The next Drug Alcohol and Traffic Awareness Class will be held on Wednesday. This is the class students need prior to taking their learner’s permit to drive. Preregistration is strongly encouraged; applications are available from Coach Semento, Room 6-213.

 E-Class progress reports for the 5th 4.5 week grading period must be submitted in eSembler no later than Monday by 2:30 p.m. They go out to students during 1st period on Tuesday, February 4th.

 The Sadie Hawkins Dance (where the girls ask the guys) will be on Saturday, February the 8th, from 8-11 in the gym. Tickets are on sale during lunch. The price will be $10 for everyone and $8 for seniors with dues paid. There will be doors prizes and giveaways so come out and have a great time on February 8th. Any questions ask Mr. Glass.

 Esty Mickens will be photographing couples at the Sadie Hawkins Winter Dance, for only $12 for two 5x7 professional prints. If pre-ordered during lunch, they are $12, or $14 at the dance. Don’t miss this opportunity to capture the moment. Tickets will be sold during lunch starting Wednesday, January 29- February 7.  The THS Key Club - Teens for Jeans campaign will be ending on Wednesday. Please continue to encourage your students to participate.

GUIDANCE

 Florida State University Youth Scholars Program is accepting applications for their six week residential summer science and mathematics experience for outstanding students entering FSU in the Fall. See Mrs. Croker for more details. The deadline is March 1st.

 PERT Testing for Dual Enrollment will be open for current 10th and 11th graders. See your guidance counselor for more information. The deadline is February 21st for the March Test Dates.

 The final FFAA Sessions for seniors will be February 18th and 19th with Mrs Croker.

 Lake Sumter State College will be on campus March 20th to enroll seniors interested in attending next Fall. If you register here on that date the college will waive your admissions fee.

 The FAFSA is open for the 2014-15 school year. Seniors this is an important part of the college application process . The link is the OSFA WEBSITE.

 Seniors, Valencia College is hosting a FAFSA FRENZY in February. If you would like FREE assistance filling out the FAFSA, see Mrs Croker in the Guidance Office for more information.

 Seniors, The FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid , is open for the 2014-15 school year. Although this is not required for Bright Future Eligibility, it is required to qualify for grants, scholarships and federal aid next year. See Mrs. Croker if you would like to participate in a training session on how to complete the application which will be provided next month.

 The SunTrust College Scholarship Sweepstakes is now available for seniors. Pick up information in the guidance office.

Word of the Day promiscuous In the Mix Word of the Day: Today's adjective has mainly negative connotations about lack of discrimination in choosing partners. 1982 - Sandy Duncan gave her final performance as "Peter Pan" in Los Angeles, CA. She completed 956 performances without missing a show.

1983 - The wearing of seat belts in cars became compulsory in Britain.

1983 - JCPenney announced plans to spend in excess of $1 billion over the next five years to modernize stores and to accelerate a repositioning program.

1985 - The final Jeep rolled off the assembly line at the AMC plant in Toledo, OH.

1990 - McDonald's Corp. opened its first fast-food restaurant in Moscow, Russia.

1995 - U.S. President Clinton invoked presidential emergency authority to provide a $20 billion loan to Mexico to stabilize its economy. 1996 - In Columbo, Sri Lanka, a truck was rammed into the gates of the Central Bank. The truck filled with explosives killed at least 86 and injured 1,400.

2000 - John Rocker (Atlanta Braves) was suspended from major league baseball for disparaging foreigners, homosexuals and minorities in an interview published by Sports Illustrated.

2000 - An Alaska Airlines jet crashed into the ocean off Southern California. All 88 people on board were killed.

2001 - A Scottish court in the Netherlands convicted one Libyan and acquitted a second in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, that occurred in 1988.

2005 - Keanu Reeves received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
