Your Name Address Date Trader’s Name Address

Dear Sir/Madam (or name of person);

Re: ( Invoice/Contract number, nature of work done e.g. double glazing, conservatory, fitted kitchen etc.).

I write further to my recent discussion with (name of person or your representative) on the (date) regarding the above matter.

On the (date) I contracted with your firm to carry out (describe what work e.g. fit an supply double glazing etc.) at of cost of £.... which I paid you on (date).

The work was started on (date) but (on completion or date) I noticed the following faults (list fault(s)) which I reported to you at once.

Described what firm did or said they would do.

In addition to any express terms, implied into our contract under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 (as amended) are certain statutory rights. The relevant ones here being that the materials you supplied should be of a satisfactory quality and/or fit for their particular purpose. In addition the fitting/installation should have been carried out with reasonable care and skill.

I believe the above listed fault(s) indicate you have failed to fulfil these legal obligations so I have a claim against you for breach of contract.

I am prepared to give you a final chance to carry out all the necessary repairs free of charge within the next 14 day. If you do not do so I shall have no alternative but to seek estimates from other contractors to rectify the defects, if this is possible, and look to you for the cost of doing this.

I look forward to receiving your response to this letter.

Yours sincerely/faithfully;

Sign and print your name.
