YOGA Grades K-5 Yoga for kids is a discipline that can lead toward a calm and balanced mind, as well as help build a strong and flexible body - tools kids can use in their everyday lives. Yoga enjoys an advantage over other forms of exercise because anyone can do it! Every child progresses at his or her own pace in a non-competitive environment. Let's Play Yoga! ART AROUND THE WORLD Grades K- 2 We will celebrate nationalities and holidays based upon dates from January to early March. Each class will start with a book or parable that leads into the craft. Exploring the holidays and cultures of different countries is a great way for kids to understand that we are diverse community. KARATE Grades K-5 Martial Arts is good, clean fun for kids...and a great way to give kids a head start in life. They'll learn the positive benefits of self-discipline and confidence, develop coordination and increase strength and flexibility. Craig S. Craig (Nidan, 2nd Degree Black belt) is the chief instructor and owner of Craig’s Kempo Karate Academy. He has over 12 years of Martial Arts experience. BEGINNING SPANISH Grades Pk- 5 NEW STUDENTS ARE WELCOME! This is a continuation of first semester. Children learn to talk about their families, pets, favorite day of the week, birthdays. They learn to spell their names. Timed games inspire them to put the mixed-up days and months in the correct order. They learn phrases like "Where's my breakfast? Where’s my toothbrush? What day is it? I'm hungry. My birthday is August 16. SPRING ADVENTURERS! Grades K-2 The season is changing! Join Mass Audubon/Habitat staff as we explore outside and see what's happening in the natural world in the spring. Have fun and hunt for clues that animals have left behind. Watch for changes as the weather shifts – find bugs and blooms, watch birds flying though and nesting, look for squirrels finding food, and more! Search for animal homes and look for tracks. Examine items like skulls, feathers and nests, and observe an animal visitor. We will play games, read stories, and find out more about nature that is right in your schoolyard! Dress for the weather. PROGRAM DATES AND TIMES Please refer to individual course descriptions for dates courses meet. Most classes run from 2:35 to 3:35 PM unless otherwise noted. Some classes do not meet on days when there is early dismissal. CONFIRMATIONS WILL BE SENT HOME WITH STUDENTS. GETTING TO AND FROM COURSES FOR KIDS After dismissal from school at 2:35 PM, the attendance monitor will meet children in the front lobby of the Cunniff School office and escort them to the correct room. Your child's classroom teacher will also have a list of children taking courses. The attendance monitor ensures all children leave the program safely. Students should be picked up at the front door. All students will be brought to the door by 3:35, unless going to extended day. Children will not be allowed to walk home without written permission from Parent/Guardian. We would appreciate children being picked up on time. There will be a late fee assessed at $10 per every ten minutes that a parent is late. CONDUCT Courses are offered as an enrichment opportunity. Children are expected to follow the teacher's instructions and not to interfere with the learning experience, enjoyment and safety of other children. If a child is disruptive and does not heed the teacher's warnings, parents will be notified. If this does not resolve the situation, the child will be asked to leave the class. There is no refund and future enrollment is on a trial basis. CANCELLED COURSES If Watertown Schools closed due to inclement weather, all courses are cancelled. If a class is cancelled due to teacher's illness or unforeseen circumstances, parents are notified by telephone and given a make-up date. REFUNDS If a refund is due because of over or under enrollment, it will be sent as soon as possible. No refunds are issued once the course has begun. ILLNESS, MEDICATION AND ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES: There is no nurse during after school hours. Staff will not administer any prescription or non-prescription medications. Children will only be allowed to self-administer inhalers and Epipens with written parental permission. It is the parent responsibility to ensure that Inhalers and Epipens are with the child during the Program. All emergency situations will be responded to by following the crisis protocol guidelines detailed in the Crisis Protocol Manual. If your child is sent home from school for any reason, including both physical illness or injury, inappropriate behavior, and all other situations which warrant dismissal, he/she will not be allowed to attend the Program on that day. Also, if your child has not attended school due to illness or because school personnel has deemed it necessary, he/she may not attend the Program that day.
