The Bonnie Herdman Scholarship Program 2018 College Guidelines and Application

Please review the guidelines below before submitting your application.

I. General Information: A. Entrust Financial Credit Union will provide ONE $1,000.00 college scholarship. The applicant must be the primary owner of an Entrust account, which is in good standing. If the applicant is not the primary owner of an Entrust account, they will need to open one with a $5 minimum deposit to become eligible for the credit union’s scholarship. You can access the account application at Entrust’s website, www.entrustfcu.org, under the “Apply” section.

B. The scholarship is available to one high school student, who will graduate in 2018 and begin full-time at an accredited college or university or who will attend a two-year vocational or training school, for the 2018-2019 academic year.

C. The scholarship reward will be deposited into the student’s Entrust Savings Account upon the credit union’s receipt of verification of enrollment at the institution.

D. Only one scholarship will be given per family.

II. Application & Essay: A. The applicant will submit both of the following items: 1. Application made on the prescribed application form. 2. Essay Question:  Must be at least 300 words, but no more than 500 words.  Must be typed in a 12 point font AND double-spaced.  Submitted on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.  Applicant’s name SHOULD NOT appear on any portion of the essay. B. Application forms are available in paper or electronic formats. Please use one of the following contact methods to receive more information. 1. Contact Rachael Williams, Outreach Coordinator, at the following:  804-200-5026 or  [email protected]. 2. Download the application from Entrust’s website at www.entrustfcu.org/scholarships.

C. Completed application and essay must be postmarked by Friday, April 27, 2018. The following are options for submitting the application:  Mail or deliver to Rachael Williams, Outreach Coordinator, Entrust Financial Credit Union, 1801 Dabney Road, Richmond, VA 23230, or  Email to Rachael Williams at [email protected]. Please make sure your essay is submitted separate from the application, or  Fax your application to the attention of Rachael Williams at 804- 359-4991.

I. Selection Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant, who the Selection Committee feels clearly explains their answer to the essay question. Consideration will also be given for grammar, spelling and overall writing skills.

The Selection Committee will be composed of staff and volunteers of Entrust Financial Credit Union. The Committee will notify the 2018 scholarship recipient via phone or email on or before Friday, July 13, 2018. An announcement will also be made in Entrust’s August Update, which is a monthly email that is sent to all members, with the recipient’s approval.

Bonnie Herdman was the first employee to retire from Entrust Financial Credit Union in 2006 after a 20-year career. The Entrust Scholarship Award has been in existence since 2001. To commemorate Bonnie’s many years of dedicated service to the membership, the scholarship program was named in her honor. The Bonnie Herdman Scholarship Program 2018 College Application

The information given on this application is confidential and will be used only by Entrust Financial Credit Union’s Scholarship Selection Committee. It will be destroyed upon announcement of the recipient.
