Hussey School News May 2017

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Happy Spring! I hope everyone is ready for the warm weather; it’s hard to believe that spring is finally upon us. At Hussey, we’re looking forward to the next month of school as there are many new concepts, field trips, and activities planned for the remainder of the school year. Please take a look at our school calendar so you can stay up to date on school events. I am so proud of all the students, staff and parents that have helped us reach our PBIS behavior goals. This past month students earned over 1,200 PAWS-itive slips; our goal for May is 2,000. Again this month, we are well below last year’s behavior referral slip count. Students are working hard to make positive choices at recess and other common areas at Hussey School. Also, I would like to thank students, faculty and IT who persevered to make MEA testing a success. Mr. Kahl (IT) and all his staff were instrumental in helping us navigate the on line testing experience. Another thank you should go out to the PTO for organizing Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, the Book Fair and the fantastic Hussey School dance. Our school climate is greatly improved by the efforts of our many PTO volunteers.

Educationally Yours, Mr. Alexander CLASSROOM PLACEMENTS It is that time of year when we are starting to put our class lists together for next year. If you would like to make a teacher request and have input that you feel we should consider, please submit it in writing by May 31 st. It is important to remember that we make placement decisions in the best interest of the student. Factors that we have to weigh include balancing classes based on the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students. Your request will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.

NURSE’S NOTES

 The warmer weather is a great excuse for kids to get outside! Exercise is important for growing bodies. It is also important to remember to have them drink plenty of water before, during and after activities. The sun is more intense this time of year and sunscreen is needed to prevent sunburns. We DO NOT provide sunscreen for the students at school. It is recommended to apply before school and send a hat if needed for recess.  As we approach the end of the year, I will be talking to parents of children who have medications here at school. All medications will need to be picked up by the parents on or before the last day of school, June 16th.

For any questions or concerns please contact me at 626-2461 or by email at [email protected] Take care, Nurse Ashley STUDENT SAFETY Warm weather has more of our students walking and biking to school which is great for their health. However, we need to ask parents and visitors to be extra careful in the parking lot as we have students who are walking at dismissal time. If your child walks to school please remind them to use our crosswalk and stay on the PAW PATH. Drive carefully and watch out for the students who are on foot and bikes.
