RESOURCE NAME: Food Safety for Boomers and Beyond

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Food Safety for Boomers and Beyond program has an online format (preferably Internet Explorer), and includes: an Introduction video, Podcasts, Navigation messages, Five videos, PDF handouts, Glossary for terms (plus “hovers”), “Learn Mores,” Quiz-game-pictures, References, Links to other sites, Final 20 question quiz, and Certificate (printable and personalized). It can be taught as five separate lessons, or can be self-guided. Major topics: Foodborne illness and how to avoid it; Handwashing; Purchasing, preparation, & cooking; Eating out and take out; and Leftovers and food storage. Most of the materials are available in Spanish, too. This program was developed at Kansas State University by Dr. Valentina Remig, Gerry Snyder and a team of other faculty members.
