Certificate in Instructional Technology Kent State University

ONLINE TEACHING & LEARNING

Online instruction has become an extremely important option for students today, both in higher education and at the K-12 level. This certificate includes 5 courses (15 credit hours) that comprehensively address issues associated with online instruction. The Distance Education course is a overview of both online instruction and other distance learning technologies. Three of the courses directly address critical aspects of online instruction: designing Web-based coursework, teaching a course online, and finally what research indicates about online instruction as an approach. Finally, a course about Internet Applications explores the wide variety of Web 2.0 applications that can enrich online instruction.

This certificate can be included with a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology or obtained independently. Note that it does not provide any certification with the state of Ohio. All of these courses are delivered online, and some include live class sessions delivered with synchronous online delivery applications. Complete this program of study, indicating when you plan to take each course. Then have it signed by D. Tiene, Instructional Technology Program Coordinator (White Hall 405), and submit it to the Graduate Education Office in 418 White Hall.
