Write an in-class response to one of these prompts. The response should include an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. You should incorporate examples from the documentary into your response; you may also use personal experiences. (10 points)
1. Is art education necessary? Why or why not? Is it taught enough in the American educational system?
2. "When I have a camera in my hands I feel happy. I feel like I am learning something...I can be someone." Do you feel that art is able to empower people? How did you see it transform the children in the film?
3. Do you believe this film, and films like it, are exploitive? In other words, when a filmmaker enters a culture that is not his/her own, do you feel they are taking advantage of those they are filming?
4. In class we have talked about how images can negatively affect us, especially when it comes to advertising. This film, on the other hand, shows how visual art can be a powerful device to view/perceive our world with different eyes. What impact did the images in the film have on you, the viewer? How did the photographs taken by the students affect you? How did photography affect them?
