“The Parables of Jesus: Hope for a Broken World” Dr. Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan

Thursdays, October 14 and October 21 2010 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Central Time About the Presenter: Mary Ann Getty Sullivan has her Doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D./Ph.D.) from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. Mary Ann is a popular lecturer and teacher and has many years of experience in offering retreats for lay people as well as for priests and religious. After more than forty years teaching theology in colleges, seminaries and universities, Mary Ann has retired from full time teaching to allow for more time to write. She has written more than ten books on topics related to the Scriptures, including several commentaries on the letters of Paul, on women in the New Testament, and children’s books on Bible stories.

Program Overview: Session 1 (October 14) will provide the biblical foundations of parables, an exploration of the meaning of the kingdom of God in the Gospels, and the location of the parables in the Synoptic Gospels as well as the centrality of their importance and function in Jesus' teaching. Session 2 (October 21) will offer sample parables particularly from Luke and show how these can be used in the pastoral care of those confronting illness, loss and death.

Program Information: The audio conferences will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. Central Time and conclude at 1:00 p.m. Participants will receive presentation materials in advance in order to prepare for the presentation. Dr. Getty-Sullivan will begin the two sessions with a presentation, followed by facilitated participant exchange. The participants qualify for up to 3 CEHs for the two sessions. The fee is $20 per line for the two sessions.
