One More Time Kenny Sargent played saxophone in the Glen Gray Casa Loma orchestra. But, the handsome dude was known to sing once in awhile. Love songs just for the ladies. And I gotta tell ya when Kenny warbled songs such as “For You”, the gals on the dance floor, married or single, would drift away from their partners and cuddle up to the bandstand close to Kenny and they just knew he was singing to each of them personally. T.O.M. ******************************************************************************************** NEWSPAPERS Here we go again for another wonderful season, and yes the newspapers are available through the Boating and Fishing Club. Garden Club The first Garden Club meeting of the 2010-2011 season will be Thursday, November 18th at 8:30am in the West Clubroom. We are looking forward to another good season of service to our community while we enjoy the company of others who share an interest in gardening. Within the club there are a variety of ways to help make Briny beautiful besides the physical part. Come to the meeting and get involved. At the November 18th meeting, plans for trips and speakers will be discussed. We can always consider new ideas and look forward to hearing yours. Our first activity will be a Poinsettia plant sale December 4th from 9-10:30am in front of the Hobby Club building. Look for a sign up sheet in the mailroom for prices. See you on the 18th. Come early for coffee and treats! ~ Jane Fox

Florence Wade “Flo on the go” is back in Briny having celebrated her 90th birthday on September 26th, a beautiful fall day in central New York. 32 family members surprised her by joining her in the same church that she was married to “Digger” Wade in 69 years ago. Two Brinyites, Betty Lewis and Judy Munson (Flo’s two sisters) were there then and now. Flo’s daughters, Karen Wiggins (K-26), Charlene Murray (J-25) and Anne Vertrees (B-7), along with Flo’s sons, David and Bill and most of their offspring enjoyed the blessings of being present to honor the matriarch of the Nelson clan. Welcome back Flo and we will watch out for you!!!

3 Pinochle News Even though we have not listed the wining names during the summer season, the Thursday games continued in the Community Center. We’ll continue to play at 1pm. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the mailroom. Evening pinochle games will begin on Tuesday, November 9th from 7-9pm in the Community Center. Sign up in the mailroom and have some fun with your fellow Brinyites. If you have questions or would like to learn the simple game, call Joan Torelli (736-9706) or JoAnne Doyle (272-3182).

Book Discussion Pat Esterman is leading a book discussion on “Understanding Other Cultures…Who Are We?” from the book “Reinventing the Melting Pot” by Jacoby. What does it mean to be an American today, compared to when our grandparents came. Is America a melting pot or a kaleidoscope? The program will be held at The Delray Beach Public Library on Thursday, November 18th at 10:30am and can be repeated at Briny if there is interest. For more information, call Pat at 276-9724. ------TOWN NEWS------

PROPANE TANKS In a recent ride around it was observed that some residents have propane tanks on their properties. Some of you may have converted from gas to electric appliances over the last couple of years. If you made this conversion and you do not want your propane gas tanks, please notify the office so that we can contact Heritage Propane to discuss the removal of the old tanks left behind or next to your unit.

If you are still using propane gas, many of the 100lb bottles I have seen are in bad condition and should be replaced. These tanks should not be rusty at all, especially on the bottom of the tank, and the tank should be on a concrete block to allow the bottom of the tank to breathe aiding in rust prevention. The tank should also be painted. Heritage Propane will properly service the tanks to help you continue safe and reliable use of propane for your appliances. Please have these tanks serviced as soon as possible. If you have any questions please contact the office.
