INVITATION TO 2013 WTSDA China and Korea Trip

Dear WTSDA members,

I’m very excited to invite you to 2013 WTSDA China and Korea Trip. It has been 6 years since we embarked on the same trip, and I hope this trip continues our tradition and legacy with unforgettable experiences.

As we announced previously, the travel will last for 17 nights and 18 days departing on July 31, 2013 and returning on August 17th, 2013.

In this invitation and application packet, you will find the details of the trip. Please review the invitation carefully, and contact the travel agent immediately if you are interested in this travel. The earlier you book the flight, the better airfare you will be able to get.

Grandmaster Itinerary

Day 1 August 1: Gather at the Incheon/Seoul Airport, and leave together for Beijing. Visit Beijing Sports University and exchange with Qigong masters there. Taste the famous Beijing roast duck.

Day 2 August 2: visit the Tian An Men Square, the biggest square in the world and the Forbidden City, which was used by emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties to rule the whole country, and the Temple of Heaven, which is a place for emperors in ancient time to pray for good harvest. Enjoy the famous Peking Opera in the evening.

Day 3 August 3: visit the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs. Great Wall, a marvelous and gigantic construction project constructed about two thousand years ago, ranges from the eastern coastal city of Shanhaiguan to the western Jiayuguan with a length of more than 3000 miles. The Ming Tombs is a tomb area for the thirteen emperors of Ming Dynasty. Today we shall visit Dingling Tomb which is the tomb for Emperor Wanli of Ming Dynasty and remains the only excavated emperor tomb in Beijing.

Day 4 August 4: visit the Summer Palace and rest. Summer Palace, located to the northwest of Beijing, remained a summer resort for emperors of Qing Dynasty.

Day 5 August 5: fly from Beijing to Xi An. Check-in at the hotel. We shall visit Shanxi Wushu Institute and make exchange with local wushu people.

Day 6 August 6: We shall visit the world famous Terra Cotta Warriors and Huaqing Hot Spring. In the evening we shall enjoy Tang Dynasty Dance Performance

Day 7 August 7: We shall visit Larger Swan Pagoda, and then travel from Xian to Luoyang by a bullet train at the speed of around 300 kms an hour. After arriving at Luoyang we shall visit Guanlin Temple, a memorial temple of Guanyu the Chinese Martial Sage. Born in 160 AD Guanyu has been worshiped as a martial sage, a moral model and a God of wealth by almost all the Chinese people in ancient times and even nowadays as he became more and more popular for his fighting skill and morality during his life time. Stay overnight in hotel of Luoyang

Day 8 August 8: visit the Longmen Grottoes, a world heritage by UNESCO. It is a large stone carving museum built more than 1500 years ago, with 2345 caves, over 100,000 Buddhist statues, and 3600 stone tablets.

Day 9 August 9: travel from Luoyang to Chen Jia Gou by bus (1.5-2 hours) Visit Chen's Ancestor's Hall and the house where Yangluchan stayed and studied Taiji Boxing. Make exchange with local Taijiquan people. Travel from Chen Jia Gou to Deng Feng by bus (3.5 hours). Stay overnight in hotel of Deng Feng

Day 10 August 10: early morning practice of Tang Soo Do in front of Shaolin Temple. Visit Shaolin Temple, enjoy a Kungfu Show and visit Wushu school to see the training and life of the students in a Kungfu Training school. Travel from Deng Feng to Zhengzhou by bus (1.5-2 hours). Stay overnight in hotel of Zhengzhou Day 11 August 11: visit Henan Provincial Museum Fly from Zhengzhou to Shanghai in the afternoon. Take the mag-lev train, the first in the world, from the airport to the city. Check-in at the hotel of Shanghai and stay overnight in Shanghai. Enjoy the acrobatic show in the evening.

Day 12 August 12: visit the famous Yuyuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, Nanjing Road and the Bund Have a night view of the scenery by taking a boat cruise along Huangpu River.

Day 13 August 13: enjoy the scenery of land mark Yangpu Bridge, Eastern Pearl TV Tower and Pudong New Area by riding on the bus. Fly from Shanghai to Seoul in the afternoon.

Tour guide meeting upon arrival in Incheon International Airport. Transfer to Seoul city for dinner and hotel check in. Remain free at leisure / Overnight rest Somerset Palace or same class

Day 14 August 14: Hotel breakfast. Depart to Suwon city. Visit the Hwaseong Fortress(UNESCO's World Heritage Site) Transfer to Yongin city after lunch. Visit the most popular tourist site in South Korea, The Korea Folk Village. Return to Seoul city. Visit the Hanok Village and Seoul Tower in Namsan Mt. Enjoy shopping in Namdaemun Market and Myungdong area. Return to hotel and remain free at leisure / Overnight rest

Day 15 August 15: Hotel breakfast. Depart to Puju city for a half day DMZ tour. Return to Seoul city for the following sightseeing: * Chongwadae(The Blue House / Korea Presidential Palace) * Gyeongbokgung Palace * Korea National Folk Museum * Stroll through the narrow streets in Insadong Alley * Jogyesa Temple / Korea Gingseng Center Return to hotel and remain free at leisure / Overnight rest Somerset Palace or same class

Day 16 August 16: Hotel breakfast. Visit Goryo University(Korea University) Visit Kukkiwon(The World Headquarter of Taekwondo) Visit Pyeongtaek Taekwondo Academy Return to hotel and remain free at leisure / Overnight rest Somerset Palace or same class

Day 17 August 17: hotel breakfast. Depart to Incheon International Airport Depart to U.S. Trip Cost

Total cost except for airfare: $2988.00 per person

The trip cost includes meals, inland transportation, hotel, and entry fees in the itinerary, but DOES NOT include airfare between the US and Korea, and Korea and China.

Flight Ticket

Flight tickets need to be purchased through the travel agent above to ensure ability to meet at the same place and at the same time. Please contact the agent as early as possible to get more information about the airfare. As of 3/1/2013, the airfare ranges between $1500 (travel from the US west coast) and $2000 (travel from the US East coast). The payment for the airfare must be made directly to the travel agent.

Visa Information

A visa is necessary for travel to China. The visitor’s visa to China can be obtained individually. However, the travel agent (Hana Tour) is also providing the visa service to those who live in the states of ME, CT, NH, NY, NJ, PA, OH, RI, MA, DE, and VT for $230 which covers the visa fee paid to the Chinese Consulate. If you are a US citizen, the visa to enter to Korea is waived for visitor’s with trips lasting no longer than 30 days.

According to the Chinese Embassy, the fee to the Chinese Consulate is $140, and the $230 includes the fee to the Chinese Consulate and mailing cost.

Alternately, there are a couple of agents on the internet who provide visa service for those who live in a different state from those listed above. You can obtain visa to enter China using a different agent if desired.

If you decide to get visa through Hana Tour, please send your passport along with your application, and we will process the visa applications together. Deadline for the application and payment Deadline for application and deposit - 30% of the entire trip cost is due by April 1st, 2013 along with application, waiver, and passport (if you use travel agent to obtain visa). Additional fee for the visa processing is also due with first payment. - Remaining 70% of the trip cost is due by July 1st, 2013 All payments must be paid by personal check, money order, or cashier’s check, we are unable to accept credit card payments for this trip at this time. SIGNATURES ON FOLLOWING PAGE, AFTER AGREEMENT Assumption of Risk / Release & Indemnification of All Claims / Covenant Not to Sue This is a legal and binding agreement which, when signed, will permanently limit your ability to recover from the parties indicated below for injuries or losses you may sustain as a result of participating in the trip to China and Korea, organized by the WTSDA (the “Trip”). References to the World Tang Soo Do Association or WTSDA include the WTSDA, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, students, instructors, affiliates and agents (including, but not limited to any travel agent whether recommended by the WTSDA or otherwise) and assigns and anyone participating in the Trip and any related activities. I freely choose to travel on the Trip indicated above and any other related or substitute travel including personal travel for the purpose of education, personal business, social service or other experience (referred to as the Trip) and I freely accept all the risks associated with the Trip. I expressly agree that I am not an employee of the WTSDA, and have no employee rights or benefits including, without limitation, any workers’ compensation benefits. I understand that the WTSDA is not an agent of, and has no responsibility for, any third party including without limitation any sponsor that may provide any services, equipment, or activities associated with the Trip. I understand that the WTSDA has not reviewed, certified, or investigated the Trip and makes no statement or warrantee as to the safety of said Trip. I agree to observe the rules and practices advised by the WTSDA. I agree that if I fail to act in accordance with this agreement I may be dismissed from the Trip. Despite precautions, accidents and injuries can occur. I understand the activities I may undertake may be potentially dangerous and that I may be injured and/or lose or damage personal property or suffer financial loss as a result of use of the facilities, equipment or Trip participation. Therefore I ASSUME ALL RISKS RELATED TO THE TRIP including but not limited to: C Death, injury or illness from accidents of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to bodily injury or illness of any nature whether severe or not, temporary or permanent, which may occur as a result of participating in an activity or contact with physical surroundings, equipment or other persons. C Loss or injury as a result of a crime or criminal act by third parties, terrorism, war, civil unrest, riot, detention by a foreign government, arrest or other act of any government or authority. C Theft or loss of personal property during the Trip or any Trip related travel. C Loss or death or injury as a result of any natural disaster or event or extreme weather conditions or events. X Alteration including delay, extension or cancellation of the Trip due to natural disaster, civil unrest, war, terrorist attack, medical quarantine or any other disturbances or causes. I further acknowledge that the above list is not inclusive of all possible risks associated with the Trip or facilities, equipment, or services in association with the Trip, and that the above list in no way limits the extent or reach of this release and covenant not to sue. I understand that participating in this Trip is an acceptance of risk of injury. Medical Treatment Authorization I authorize the WTSDA to act on my behalf in any medical emergency if and as may be applicable. Release from Liability, Indemnification Agreement and Covenant Not to Sue In consideration of the WTSDA’s support of the Trip, I the undersigned, to the fullest extent permitted by law, agree to forever release and on behalf of myself, my spouse, heirs, representatives, executors, administrators and assigns, HEREBY DO FOREVER RELEASE the WTSDA from any cause of action, claims, or demands of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to a claim of negligence which I or my spouse, heirs, representatives, executors, administrators and assigns may now have, or have in the future against the WTSDA on account of personal injury, bodily injury, property damage, death or accident of any kind, arising out of or in any way related to my participation on the Trip howsoever the injury is caused, including whether by the ordinary negligence of the WTSDA or otherwise. In consideration of the WTSDA’s support of the Trip I, the undersigned, COVENANT NOT TO SUE and agree to INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS the WTSDA from any and all causes of action, claims, demands, losses or costs of any nature whatsoever arising out of or in any way relating to the Trip. I hereby certify that I have full knowledge of the nature and extent of the risks inherent in the Trip and the use of facilities, equipment, or services in association with the Trip, that I am voluntarily assuming all risks, whether known or unknown, and that I am voluntarily participating in the Trip. I understand that I will be solely responsible for any loss or damage, including death, which I sustain or cause, whether in whole or in part, while participating in the Trip and my use of facilities, equipment, or services in association with the Trip, and that by this agreement I am relieving the WTSDA of any and all liability for such loss, damage or death. My signature below indicates that I have read and freely signed this agreement, which shall take effect as a sealed instrument. I further certify that I am at least 18 years old and am legally competent to sign this agreement. I further understand that the terms of this agreement are legally binding and I certify that I am signing this agreement after having carefully read and understood the same, of my own free will. This agreement is made in sole consideration of the WTSDA permitting my participation in the Trip. This agreement shall be North Carolina and I consent to the jurisdiction of said state. I expressly agree that this waiver and release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted under North Carolina law and that if any portion hereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
