The Student Leadership Academy Is a Selective Student Leadership Program That Will Provide

The Student Leadership Academy

The Student Leadership Academy is a selective student leadership program sponsored by Student Life that will provide students with valuable personal growth, leadership and career development through experiential learning. Its design will enhance the student’s academic training in the classroom and promote the learning college through interactive leadership training sessions, retreats, career development, and campus/ community involvement.

Our mission is to assist in the development, training and preparation of emerging business and community leaders through hands-on experiential opportunities in a learning college environment.

To qualify for this program you must:  Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours  Maintain a GPA of 2.5

Program requirements:  Complete 24 hours of training sessions on: Effective Leadership, The Decision Making Process, Delegating, Diversity, Group facilitation, Time Management and Goal Setting, Tips for Public Speaking, Budget Management, Effective Communication, Motivating Others, Conflict Resolution, Event/ Program Planning, Professional and Social Etiquette, The Art of Negotiating, How to Create a Portfolio, Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Networking Skills, Marketing Yourself in the Workforce, and Evaluating a Job Offer

 Hold a leadership position on campus as a campus senator, SGA volunteer, or an campus club/organization officer

 Attend one program related career panel and one networking opportunity

 Design your own professional portfolio

 Coordinate and be evaluated on a program from conception to culmination

Upon program completion you will receive:

 Valuable personal growth, career & leadership development, skill training & preparation that can be transferred into management, supervision and leadership in today’s workforce  A leadership transcript and certificate to verify completion of the program

 A portfolio evaluated and approved by a career services professional The Student Leadership Academy Application
