September 21, 2016 PTA Meeting Stephen Knight Center for Early Education 6:00 – 7:15 PM

Introductions: We had 25 individuals in attendance. What a great showing! It was so nice to meet so many new people. We even “played” some ice breaker bingo! 12 children utilized babysitting.

Call to order – 6:20 PM

SKCEE Scamper – Donation Link: https://www.crowdrise.com/skcee-scamper1 Sign Up Genius Link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0D4DA8AC2CABFB6-skcee2 Description: What is it? It’s a student fun run! Students will run the perimeter of the school playground for around 30 minutes. A DJ will play music and encourage them. Students do not compete, but rather do their best running/walking alongside their classmates and teachers. Fundraising: We have a goal of $11,000 for the entire event. As of this morning, $4300 has been raised on Crowdrise for the event with the average donation of $100. $1800 has been raised for sponsorship. Thank you to our sponsorship lead, Debbie Fimple. Raffle items are coming in and tickets will also be sold for items and teacher treasurers. Volunteering Needs: Back to School Night - We need help for raffle sales for back to school night (see sign up genius above). Individual classrooms will have different formats for back to school night (i.e. scavenger hunt) that will be communicated to families over the next week. Shifts are only 15 minutes long so that all families can experience Back to School Night together. Day of Event – We need help with raffle ticket sales and handing out juice, snacks, and medals on the day of the event. If you can volunteer, you can do so while your child is running or before/after. You can sign up via sign up genius (above) Event Day News –  We will have a coffee/tea table staffed by “The Law Office of Lyndsey Richard,” a bronze sponsor. This will be open all day.  Photographer, Bryan Moore will provide race day photography and a fun photo area at the end. Digital pictures will be available for download or posting to social media.  It is looking to be a warm day. We will need some sunshade tents. Please consider lending yours on the morning of the event. Sign up is available on the sign up genius. Chinook Books - Alison Yeh; Lead Organizer Timeline: Oct 7-17, 2016  One book will go home with every child in an order envelope.  $22 for book and App subscription.  Each book and envelop will contain a label with the child’s name and classroom to increase accountability and decrease teacher work load.  Join Alison Yeh for an “Envelope Stuffing 'party'” on Tuesday, October 4th, 1:00 PM. Email [email protected] for the address or use the volunteer sign up genius  Volunteers also needed:  Giving the envelops to teacher’s classes  Once orders come in, reconciling the orders  Prizes include gift cards from Chinook o Highest Seller for 3s, 4s, and Kinder classrooms

Dine Out - Erlen Marsh; Lead Organizer Upcoming events in September and October  At the Bonnie Brae Tavern Dine Out on September 20, 15% of sales were donated and we raised $400!  Nancy Byrne with Matilda Jane will be here on September 27, 28, and she will donate 20% of Sales.  Lindsey Trees with the Fashion Truck will be here on September 27, and she will donate a percentage of sales.  Nothing Bundt Cakes will donate to our school during the dates of October 3 – 8.  Tea Clothing Online will donate 15% of sales between October 12 – 19.  The next dine outs on the schedule include 730 South Restaurant, Jax Fish House, and The Kitchen Next Door.

PTA Memberships Membership chair - Ali Valverde Total membership count for 2016/17 so far – 55ish We have many PTA Class Representatives. Their responsibility is to communicate what happens at the PTA meeting (will be sent as a summary to all representatives), act as a bridge between PTA, teacher, and classroom parents, encourage volunteering, membership, and attend events.

School Tour Training: Tours are held once a month starting in September, and then more frequently during December and January for the School Choice process. At SKCEE, we love to have parent volunteers give the tours and answer questions from those considering the school. Please note that all those new to giving SKCEE tours this year are asked to attend the September 30th tour for training. (Please arrive by 9:15 AM). If unable to attend on Sept 30th, please make other arrangements with Ms. Renee. Library Update – Judy Pottle; Volunteer Librarian  Thank You for support in the library o PTA paid Grant, our custodian, to build flip through shelves (and the picnic benches out front) o Miss Renee’s support o Miss Katie is the librarian liaison and DPS contact person.  Students will start going to the library during the second week of October.

Principal's Update – Renee Vanhorn  PTA: Thank you for all those parents that are volunteering The money raised by the PTA supports paraprofessional hours, scholarships, staff hospitality, and teacher/school requests.

 CSC (Collaborative School Committee) Information:There are teachers, parents, community members on the committee. We are a public school with a school performance framework. We are looking for a PTA member to join the committee. This person should be from a home school, possibly Cory, with a child in both SKCEE and the home school. CSC meetings happen once a month. Agendas are available online, and minutes are publicly posted.

 Our school is meeting and exceeding expectations! 4 Years Ago, only 80% of the students meet expectations in Kindergarten literacy. Now, 99% of students meet expectations in Kindergarten literacy in our school! 85% exceed expectations in Kindergarten literacy in our school!
