Course Description

This course will address the South Carolina state standards for Virtual Enterprise. ” The Virtual Enterprise program allows students to experience within a simulated business environment all facets of being an employee/entrepreneur. Students run simulated businesses in their schools and engage in virtual trading with other virtual businesses. The program provides students with instruction and an in school work experience to develop college and career ready skills. Opportunities to participate in organized competitions on local, state, and national levels are integral to the course. ” (South Carolina Dept. of Education) Qualified students will represent his/her virtual business in the Trade Fair Challenge at the Business Professional of America state competition in March 2017 (Location TBD) Based the his/her performance at the State level, students will have the opportunity to advance to the National Business Professionals of America competition in Orlando, Florida May 10-14, 2017 Students will need to join Business Professionals of America in order to be eligible to participate in the State and National competitions.

Student Expectations and Responsibilities Students are expected to act in a professional manner and observe all rules list in the FMHS student handbook and the classroom. The computers are FMHS property and misuse of software / hardware is vandalism and punishment handled by the administration.  Always RESPECT the right of others to LEARN and the equipment of FMHS.  Bring a Positive ATTITUDE to class everyday!  Take PRIDE! Always do your own work! “Treasure your creative skills!”  Be Attentive and PARTICIPATE in all class activities. “Bring a pencil to class”  After an absence, the STUDENT is responsible for asking about making up missed work.  Students should only access (“OPEN”) programs, drives, subfolders, or applications that are applicable to the content of this class or with the teacher’s permission.  Heads should be up and "alert" AT ALL TIMES –students will not be allowed to sleep in class.

Consequences  Warning and student / teacher conversation  ISS with discipline referral and parent / teacher conversation  Other consequences for not being attentive (ex. head down during instruction) and/or respectful include a 1-2 page paper on an assigned topic related to the current class content.

Teacher Responsibilities  Obtaining and providing necessary resources for all students  Providing a challenging and rigorous curriculum with high standards and expectations  Verbally explaining and discussing conceptual topics  Protecting school property from malicious or mischievous acts of vandalism  Enforcing all rules and procedures listed in the Student Handbook Virtual Enterprise Molnar Fort Mill High School

Assignments / Projects / Tests / Late Work Daily assignments are due on the deadline date! This is a business class; in the real world people have deadlines. I am committed to establishing respect for a deadline! Student will also be setting up an Edmodo account that will be utilized in the class for assignment downloading and uploading for electronic turn in. (www.edmodo.com) I reserve the right to deduct appropriate penalty points for any and all late assignments. Daily Assignments, project and test announcements will be posted on Edmodo. Absences / Make-Up Work Students will be allowed to make-up any missed work due to an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to take ownership of any missed work. School policy states that all make-up work must be completed within 2 weeks of the absence. Special consideration will be given when circumstances dictate however the STUDENT needs to COMMUNICATE their circumstances with me BEFORE the assignment deadline. Grade Point Breakdown : Lesson Activities/Classwork/Quizzes / Dress of Success 25% Projects 25% Tests (business plan, sales catalog, presentations, business terms, interviewing, end of the year portfolio) 30% Daily Professionalism 10% *Daily Professionalism includes, staying on task during the class period, participating in activities, coming to class prepared and proper management of electronic files and paper documents.
