Tech Factor Challenge 2016 Team Progress Report Template
This document provides a template of how you should approach the task of writing the team progress report, to be submitted by 20 March 2017, 2359 hours (Singapore Time) via the Submissions page. The team progress report consists of 3 sections. The first section is an interim update on your project which would detail key improvements made to better accomplish the solution’s stated objectives in the project proposal submitted upon registration. You should note that any improvements made should allow your solution to better fulfill the final judging criteria, and therefore requires careful considerations. You are to budget the use of the prototype fund (70% of cost, up to a total of S$20,000) in section 2, and exemplify your Semi-Finals demonstration plan in the final section of this report. Should you feel that other aspects of your project are not sufficiently covered by the suggested structure here, please do include the additional points/aspects in your report while keeping to the page limit. You should note that your report will be referred to during the Semi-Finals, and for assessment of your proposed budgeting of prototype fund should your team gets shortlisted to advance to the Final Judging.
GENERIC GUIDELINES
Page Limit & Pagination: Your write-up for sections 1, 2 and 3 of your report should not exceed 3, 1 and 2 page(s) respectively. The total number of pages inclusive of supporting documents must not exceed 10 pages. Begin numbering your pages after the cover page.
Page Setting: The report should be done on A4 page size setting, with page margins not less than 1” on all sides.
1 Font: Please use Times New Roman font, no smaller than Font Size 12. Line spacing should be kept at 1.5.
PROTOTYPE JUDGING CRITERIA The judging panel will assess the solutions based on the following criteria: Innovativeness & Creativity Solution must be originally conceived / developed by the team. If external party/parties has/have also contributed to the product, they must be identified. Sustainability Ability to adapt to technological advancements within the product life-cycle. Scalability Potential to be scaled up to handle larger user base. Task Performance Ability Teams will demonstrate the use of their solution at the designated competition venue. At minimum the solution must demonstrate its capability to:
a. Accomplish the solution’s stated objective in the Project Proposal and perform goal-oriented workflow actions: Mobility Category o System achieves its goals of improving mobility of user or assist in activities of daily living in a HDB home; and/or o System achieves its goals of alleviating caregiver’s burden by assisting in caregiving task(s) Smart H2 Category o System achieves its goals of improving the lives of an elderly in a smart-safe home; and/or o System achieves its goals of aiding an elderly in smart health & wellness management; and/or o System achieves its goals of enabling caregivers to remotely monitor, manage or support the elderly, reassuring caregivers of the elderly’s safety and well-being through use of technology; and o System consists of software accompanying a hardware prototype
b. Takes into consideration space constraints of HDB homes o Solution / Application fits into the layout of the designated venues
c. Takes into consideration of safety functions: o Activate safety features to end operation during malfunction or when misused o Proper casing of wires and mechanical components, and waterproofing
Teams may propose any other innovative functions stated in their Project Proposals, which may be awarded bonus points Systems with the ability to synchronize with competition IoT platform may be awarded bonus points Time taken to perform tasks will be taken into consideration Ease of Use User-friendliness (E.g. For less tech savvy elderly). Ease of technology uptake. User-configurable.
2 Ergonomics & User Experience Comfort of technology when worn or used. Intuitive design. Safety of Operation Static hazard considerations (E.g. Absence of sharp corners, exposed wires, waterproofing). Operational hazard considerations (E.g. Safety features to end operation when misused). Practicality & Commercial Viability Potential economic impact of solution. Affordability of solution. Quality of Prototype Presented Robustness. Durability.

Cover Page Section I – Key Improvements / Alterations (~3 pages)
Proposed Product/Solution and its Objectives: Indicate clearly your solution’s objectives and the pain points of the elderly and/or the caregiver which it aims to solve. Describe how your solution works and the uniqueness of your solution. You may extract this information from your Project Proposal.
Key Improvements/Alterations made since submission of Project Proposal: Describe the key alterations made to your proposed product/solution since the submission of your Project Proposal. Explain how these changes helped your solution better accomplish its objectives or fulfill the final judging criteria. You may illustrate clearly any changes in design to your prototype using technical drawings (rendered, isometric, axonometric, section and/or exploded views), etc.
Additionally, elaborate on how the alternations made can help your solution better accomplish the following judging criteria (if any): a) Technical hurdles to overcome / Key partners to help develop technology
b) Safety features of your prototype
c) Your prototype’s edge over existing solutions in the market
d) Avoids or overcomes pitfalls for existing solutions or alternative approaches
e) Affordability of solution for an average family in Singapore
f) Scalability of solution to handle larger user base
g) User configurable, ease of adoption or user-friendliness
h) Ergonomics & deployability in user’s living environment

Section II – Budget of Prototype Fund (~ 1 page)
Provide a summary of expected expenditures and the planned usage of the Prototype Fund using the suggested table below. SPRING’s Prototype Assistance Scheme covers up to 70% of the prototype cost (purchases after scheduled date of Semi-Finals judging only), up to a maximum of S$20,000 (Twenty Thousand Singapore Dollars). You may include any additional points/aspects if necessary: Amount Amount to Budgeted covered by be paid by Amount Expected Expenditures PAS team [A] 70% of [A] 30% of [A] (in SGD) (in SGD) (in SGD)

Page 6 of 5 Section III – Semi-Finals Demonstration Plan (~ 2 pages)
There will be a 10-minute demonstration & judge’s inspection of functional draft prototype during the Semi-Finals judging round, focusing on the solution’s concept. Due to the tight schedule on the Semi-Finals judging day, the demonstration plan serves to ensure a smooth transition and ensure that teams do not overrun and cause delays for subsequent teams.
You should note that your demonstration plan will be referred to during the Semi-Finals judging session. Hence, it is strongly advised that you adhere to the sequence and estimated duration of demonstration illustrated in your demonstration plan. Do note that the total duration of your prototype demonstration should not exceed 10 minutes, else teams will be penalized.
In chronological order, make a list of set-up steps and what you plan to showcase during your judging slot, including all additional features of your prototype. Indicate the estimated time required for showcasing each feature.
GENERIC GUIDELINES Page Limit & Pagination: The total number of pages of your demonstration plan should not exceed 2 pages. Please exclude this instruction page in your submission. Page Setting: The proposal should be done on A4 page size setting, with page margins not less than 1” on all sides. Font: Please use Times New Roman font, no smaller than Font Size 12. Line spacing should be kept at 1.5 for paragraphs and 1.15 for texts in tables.
