In 1982 David Benest was the Regimental Signals Officer with 2 Para during the battles of Goose Green and Wireless Ridge. This one off presentation is hosted by Robin Horsfall, 2 Para & 22 SAS and is in aid of Julia’s House, a children’s hospice in Dorset.

The hall bar will be open at 6pm for all. The talk is planned to begin at 6.30 and end at about 8.30. David’s lecture will include the battles for Goose Green and Wireless Ridge and will be followed by a Q&A from the audience and a chance to gather in the bar afterwards.

Robin Horsfall will be hosting an evening presentation by Colonel David Benest at the Masonic Hall, Alexandra Road, Farnborough, Hants on Sunday 31st May 2015. This event is to raise money for Julia’s House a children’s hospice near Poole in Dorset. This charity has no government funding and provides respite care for parents whose children are terminally ill. They also provide an end of life service for parents at a time of great sadness and loss.

David Benest is the acknowledged official historian on the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regt during the Falklands War. He attended Sandhurst at the age of 18, became a platoon commander 2 PARA 1973-7; Regimental Signals Officer 2 PARA 1981-3, which included the Falklands war; adjutant 10 PARA(V) 1983-4; Royal Military College of Science 1985; Staff College Camberley in 1986; Company commander 3 PARA 1989-90 and then 21C; Regimental Adjutant 1991-3; CO 2 PARA 1994-7, promoted to Colonel, Defence Academy 2002-9, two brief tours in Afghanistan and retired from the Army on his 55th birthday after 37 years of service.

The Falklands War in 1982 was the last time the British Army fought with combined Land, Sea and Air forces to achieve a complete and total victory over a numerically superior enemy.
