NB. Please note that if you are awarded the Einhorn Oestreicher MPhil Scholarship, you will not be able to receive any other scholarship funded by the University of Sussex.
The Einhorn Oestreicher MPhil Scholarship is kindly funded through the generous philanthropic support of Prof Barbara Einhorn and The Reverend Dr Paul Oestreicher in memory of their children Jessica and Daniel, and matched funding from the University.

Scholarship Information
There is one award providing the following:
A £10,000 scholarship for students of any nationality wishing to pursue MPhil research in Resistance Studies at the University of Sussex.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with the unique holdings of the Archive of Resistance Testimony held at The Keep archive, Falmer. Its collections relate to the broad history of resistance, covering wartime occupied Europe, anti-Apartheid and anti-colonial struggles, and dissent in Eastern Europe during the Cold War. In the first year, the candidate will audit bespoke modules on resistance studies offered as part of the BA History and MA Contemporary History degrees. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with archivists at The Keep in the further development of the Archive, in particular within the digital field.
The scholarship will be paid in two instalments of £5,000 in October 2017 and October 2018. In the first instance the scholarship will be a fee waiver, with any remaining funds to be paid as maintenance/stipend. At the end of the scholarship, holders will be eligible to apply to upgrade their registration to a PhD for a further two years of full-time study (or equivalent), and will be eligible at this point to apply to external sources of funding to support their continued studies.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be considered for the scholarship you must have:
Achieved a Merit or higher on a taught Masters degree or equivalent if from an overseas institution. We will also exceptionally consider candidates with a first class Bachelors degree or equivalent if from an overseas institution Applied separately and accepted a full-time offer of a place to study on an MPhil in History (working in the field of Resistance Studies) in the School of History, Art History and Philosophy. Met all the University’s general entrance requirements.
